Vladi and Milan read porn mags on the team bus. Vladi loved prostitutes. Vladi told Red Nick about Riise's dirty little secrets. Vladi rules!

It's hard to argue with logic like that.

Remember writing this Rashid? "I feel ashamed of the way I have cursed him in the past. Vladi has repayed 10 times over, thanks lad and good luck." (About Smicer)

It was on this thread but the link isn't working.

http://forum.liverpoolway.co.uk/sho...ighlight=smicer

What have I said since to change that stance? I do feel ashamed at the name calling in the past. When he first joined I loved him, I love players in his position with skill. As the years went past it was apparent he wasn't up to it and he would never cut it. He cost us money and was injured 60% of each season and hardly ever put on great performances - he was supposed to replace Macca.

I have not cursed him or called him names once in this thread, the fact I am ashamed of calling him names in the past still stands but nobody can convince me that Smicer was a success here - he was anything but. In fact even Heskey was more successful and he was proper shit.

First paragraph could apply equally to Kewell but you appear to cut him a lot more slack.

Kewell hasn't been here 6 years yet, I was cutting Vlad the same slack in his first 3 years. Also we also know that Kewell CAN do it in this league, but for his injuries except we know Vlad can't.

I think Rafa is of the same view too....

Maybe or maybe not. I think Rafa will sell him to the first decent offer.

I think Kewell is still our best left winger... Kewell and Garcia would play in my team every week without a doubt. In fact it is no coincidence that we had our best games last season with these two in the side.

This is what you said about Vlad April 2005 and can be said about Kewell now

This guy has been here ages happy to pick up his wages, has one good game and 10 shit ones, is injured for about 70% of every season, ducks out of challenges and fuck knows what else.

Kewell will not be here for six years.

From TalkLFC...

Vladimir Smicer will not be facing Liverpool this week in the Champions League tie between his old club and new club, Bordeaux.

This may come as a shock to some, but the Istanbul hero, is out injured. This time it is his hamstring. The Anfield physio staff remember this hamstring fondly, as they spend large part of Smicer Liverpool career nursing it.

In a recent interview Vladi claimed he still dreams of that momentous game and the moment he finally got the chance to prove to Liverpool fans he was a decent player.

“I wanted the responsibility and the chance to show that I was a good player after all.

I just wanted to make sure I gave Liverpool, and the fans, something back. "

Although most Reds fans are still unconvinced of his ability (as a football player, his ability to be injured is only rivaled by Harry Kewell), he did manage to give the fans something back. And I'm not talking about crutches.

Hermes said we had no creativity or flair, I said we had that in Garcia. I don't see what the problem is. It's not reactionary it's a discussion about footballers on a football forum. Or would you prefer to talk about why winning the league is important?

I never said you were being reactionary.

As for my thread about the league..I was asking for OTHER peoples thoughts, since lately I've seen replies to threads about our play, that suggest that winning the league isn't the most important thing for the club.

Just because I ask the question of others, doesn't mean I dont think winning the league has importance.

CL Final: scored his penalty and kissed his badge. no doubts here about his love for the club, and dedication to acheive for the club at the highest level.

It doesn't matter how good a player is on the field, if he constantly gets injured, and misses large parts of the season, he's no good to a club. when a player gets constanty injured, he cant acheive for himself or the club.

Harry Kewel fits into this category... Michael Owen will probably sit in this category now as well for the rest of HIS playing career. Its tragic for both players, but its common in football.

Smicer, having left the English foolball League, could well find continental footy to his liking in terms of hopefully not being injured quite so often.

Now it's a Garcia vs. Smicer thread? Why do these discussions always have to turn into fucking playground shit like that?

In my defense, there is no comparison between the two from me which is why I have two separate responses. I was mearly putting forth my opinion on both issues being discussed on this thread.

He scored 2 goals in the league that season from 26 appearances, man a sub, he played 11 games in Uefa and didn't score.

Team mates spoke about how great he was in training!

He was never our most creative player in the treble season, that was Gary Mac. Steven Gerrard was also brilliant, and even Jari contributed more. This Smicer was great (just cos he is a good bloke) is utter bollox.

Over the period of 6 years that Smicer was at the club he didn't consistently do it enough for us for varying reasons but to suggest that he wasn't creative in the treble season is frankly absurd. You only need to look over the treble season review to see how many goals he's involved in. He had the highest number of assists in the squad and the majority of our best performances that season (certainly in terms of attractiveness) came when he was in the team.

He was bettered (by one) only by Beckham and Solano in league assists and they, unlike Smicer, were both regular starters and corner takers. In all competitions he got more assists than Beckham, again despite playing less games.

Assist2000/01

Obviously, whether he was any good or not is subjective - it sometimes seems like you struggle with the notion that things aren’t just black or white (one of the main causes of the abuse you receive). The facts are that he was creative in 2000/01, very creative, so don’t rewrite history to suit your agenda. Despite his limitations and the frustrations I had with him, under Houllier he at least represented a player who wanted to play football the right way and as I mentioned, the rare pass and move performances always seemed to be when he was on the pitch. Had he been at a club like Arsenal I’m sure he’d be perceived very very differently right now, you might scoff that he was never good enough for them but equally had we signed Ljungberg in 98 (which GH has said he intended) I wonder whether he’d be thought of as such a good player now? It seems unlikely GH would ever have utilised him correctly; Vladi surrounded by the right types of player, in the correct formation and under the tutelage of Wenger would surely have done much much better.

For Istanbul I fuckin love the bloke, I’ve never gone so mental for a goal at a game or anywhere for any reason for that matter. In the unlikely event that he wanted to mature a blend of his cock cheese I’d be honoured if he wanted to whip it out and use my shoulder.

Excellent post. I am however, completely and utterly uncomfortable with your cock cheese fetish.

Liverpoo Echo 18th October 2006:

"it is important that I regain the confidence of Rafa Benitez. I have not played as many matches this season, so I need to remind him of why he brought me to Liverpool". - Luis Garcia, "squad player".

"This season" which is only 10 games old. You old twat. You compared Luis to Vlad, so tell me - Is Vlad a squad player? He came as Macca's replacement and ended up alongside the Biscans of this world!

15 league starts last season and 16 as a sub, 13 other players started more league games than he did. He is not considered a first team player because of his inconsistency. Rafa knows he is unreliable, that's why he is a squad player.

Then he is the best squad player in the world judging by his contribution, which when you compare with Vlad (which was your original point) then he is worth 10 times the amount we paid for Vlad.

I didn't compare either of them to anybody, check the thread.

I think Vlad was a technically superb player who physically (always shipping injuries) was not "up" to the Premiership. I always liked his attitude and alwys was hoping he would do something to justify my faith when he played.

However for me now that his time at anfield is over it is quite simple.

the character he showed in Istanbul, the dare I say it "mentality" to get the biggest prize in his last game, the clinical and techincally superb way he took his peno / goals, and his sheer delight for himself, the club and his place in its history make the man a liverpool legend.

We celebrate and big up "legends" such as mad erik and titi for the ecentricities - what does his one "giant" contribution make Vlad. On this basis Vlad should be "venerated" for his contribution in one match alone. Plus Vlad made a much moire substantial contribution to the rebuilding of Liverpool during the Houllier era.

Furtehrmore if David Fairclugh will always be mr. St. Ettienne why can Vlad be remebered for Istanbul? Each was an equally magnificent contribution to the tapestry of Liverpoll( Vlads arguably greater - though i personally think how can one great night, and that nights hero's be rated above another)

It really pissess me off to see the contribution of a "good guy" who made an important contribution to the club, won x amount of trophies, was professional during his time at the club, gave all, never embarassed the club and oh.. scored 2 goals in champions league final have his contribution questioned.
