Brighton 2 Liverpool 3 (Oct 30 2024)
Considering the amount of changes made by both teams, there’s little point in looking at the game too deeply or trying to draw any conclusions about how it compares to other recent performances or what it means moving forward. I would just look at a game like this and take it for what it was, which was a fun, entertaining cup tie in which we deservedly progressed to the next round. I can honestly say, hand on heart, if we had gone out I wouldn’t have been taking any issue with the te

Kelleher: It is not the worst thing in the world to stay at a club like Liverpool
Caoimhin Kelleher maintains that becoming a first choice goalkeeper remains his long-term goal but for time being his sole focus is to fill the big shoes of the injured Alisson Becker starting this afternoon at Anfield against Chelsea. Regardless of whatever level you play in, Footballers live for the big moments in the big games, and while the talismanic Brazilian will undoubtedly be frustrated by the timing of his hamstring injury, for Kelleher it truly is a gift from the football
Lijnders: I am proud to see Arne make such a strong start at Liverpool
Pep Lijnders has spoken about his pride in the work that Arne Slot is doing since becoming Liverpool manager. The 41 year-old left the club in the summer and landed the role of manager at RB Salzburg who is currently in fifth place in the Austrian league albeit having played two games less than the four teams above them. Along with Jurgen Klopp and Peter Krawietz they helped build a iconic period in Liverpool’s esteemed history, but despite making a clean break from the c
Slot: I have full confidence in Darwin
Arne Slot says that Darwin Nunez will get plenty of opportunities to display his talents this season. To date, the Uruguayan striker has made four appearances totalling 85 minutes this season and against Ipswich he was an unused substitute. Nunez’s midweek appearance against AC Milan was his 100th for the Reds where he has scored 33 goals in all competitions along with 16 assists. There has been a prevailing view amongst the fanbase that this season his third

Premier League Round Up (Oct 25-27 2024)
I hate the notion of VAR. Always have, always will. I also hate Michael Oliver as he’s a fucking loose cannon who thinks he doesn’t have to follow the guidelines set out for other officials. So put VAR and Michael Oliver together, and there are few things in this world I hate more. Even more so now that these two things have conspired to kill my sweet prince Erik. What happened to him is a fucking disgrace. He’d still be in a job keeping us all entertained if Oliver hadn’t inexplicab

Arsenal 2 Liverpool 2 (Oct 27 2024)
A point away at Arsenal is rarely a bad one, and that certainly applies here. It’s a good point for us, less so for them. They’ve finished above us the last couple of seasons, they’ve beaten us in the league at their place in both of those seasons and although we went into this one above them in the table, we haven’t been blowing the doors off anyone and our form has not been as convincing as the results have been. So I think pretty much all of us would have taken a point before the

Monday Oct 21: Some interesting comments from Virgil on contract talks. “I can say obviously discussions are ongoing, but I don’t know, we will see what happens in the future. My very full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win games that are ahead of me and nothing else. What the future will bring I have no idea at the moment. I can only tell you that discussions have been started up and we will see”. “I feel very good, physically, mentally and I am having fun. What the f
Premier League Round Up (Oct 19-21 2024)
The big story this weekend was Arsenal losing at Bournemouth after having Saliba sent off early and then later conceding a penalty. As soon as I heard Saliba had been sent off I knew my ‘for you’ twitter timeline would be fucked up. I must have read a few Arsenal fan tweets and now I’m bombarded with the cunts. I’d say they’re easily the worst fans on twitter but maybe that’s because I see far more from them than I do anyone else? Or maybe they are just the biggest crybaby fanbase in

RB Leipzig 0 Liverpool 1 (Oct 23 2024)
I know it was only 1-0 and we hanging on a little bit and needed Kelleher to make some sharp saves, but I thought this was really good. A classic European away performance where we controlled most of the game, quietened the crowd and made a potentially difficult game look mostly routine. I have absolutely no complaints about this at all, I’m made up with it. Of course a second goal would have made life much easier, but we really went for that in the first half and we were unlucky not
Liverpool 2 Chelsea 1 (Oct 20 2024)
Firstly, it's a good result and I'm made up to end another weekend in top spot. However, at the risk of sounding like a spoilt, ungrateful little shit, that felt somewhat unfulfilling and my confidence levels for the coming weeks were certainly not boosted, despite a win over what will probably be a top four or five team that took us to the top of the table. Just reading that sentence back to myself makes me squirm. I know how how it sounds, you don’t need to tell me. I’m fully awar
Crystal Palace 0 Liverpool 1 (Oct 5 2024)
Yeah not bad. Not great, bit boring, but not bad. The second half was a real chore to watch and we were hanging on for a long spell there, but a win is a win and getting them away from home is rarely easy. Especially when you’re playing the way we are at the moment. It’s not clicking but it is functioning well enough to beat the bottom half dregs we’ve faced so far, so I’m not complaining. Well not too much anyway. Slot said afterwards he was pleased with the first hour

Premier League Round Up (Oct 5-6 2024)
Not the most interesting of weekends really. It almost was, as at one point both City and Arsenal were losing, but we all knew how those movies were going to end. I didn’t get my hopes up even for a second. That being said, City should have lost at home to Fulham, who apparently gave them all they could handle. The reason City didn’t lose was because Adama Traore missed three one v ones. I fast forwarded through the MOTD highlights of this because, well you know, fuck Man City, but I

That was the Week that Was (Oct 14-18 2024)
Monday Oct 14: Trent played left back and scored a free-kick. I’m actually surprised England haven’t tried that before given the problems they’ve had at the position. Adam Clery at 442 has been suggesting it for a while. I wouldn’t do it, I’d put him right back and have one of the other jabronis like Walker or Trippier move to the left, but given Southgate’s unwillingness to do that you’d have thought he’d have taken a look at Trent there. Of course Roy Keane is still tro

Monday Oct 7: New contracts in the pipeline! But not for who we would have thought. Konate and Quansah are being lined up for new deals, with the word from the LFC journos that talks are continuing with the ‘big three’ but no common ground has been found yet, which is really fucking worrying. Richard Hughes has supposedly said it's a really difficult situation he's inherited and that the club are determined not to allow these kind of contract issues to happen again. Mate,

"Macca Can" - Steve McMahon interview
You started out with the Blues. Was it always going to be Everton or did you have any trials with Liverpool when you were a kid? It was always going to be Everton, I didn’t get an option. When I was 10 or 11 I was scouted by them and that was the first thing I did, join Everton. All my family were Evertonians - lots of them still are - so it was a natural thing to do and I was very fortunate. Things change quickly in life though. We’ll get to why you left in a second, but I wanted t

"Xabi Alonso's 70 yard screamer against Newcastle (2006/07)" by Jason Harris
When you think of guile and grace as a midfielder, one name that personally comes to mind is Xabi Alonso. To this day, Xabi remains in my top three all-time favourite Liverpool players for many of the qualities that will be discussed in this piece.Signed for a absolute snip at £10.7 million from Real Sociedad at the start of Rafa Benitez's tenure in the summer of 2004, the Spaniard's arrival in England was at the peak of a pre-eminent era for central midfielders in the Premier League. He joined
"El Niño strikes - Fernando Torres’ first goal" by Jason Harris
When an eagle-eyed photographer spied the words 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' on an armband worn by Fernando Torres in an Atletico Madrid game, it appeared destiny that the Spaniard would one day play for the Reds. Liverpool fans were crying out for an iconic figure to lead the line and help take the team to the next level. Their dreams became a reality when Rafa Benitez signed the 23-year-old from his boyhood club for £27 million, which at the time was a club record fee. While Torres wa
'SuperDan' breaks the drought at Old Trafford (2000/01)" by Jason Harris
"One day we will beat Manchester United, I promise you that." Those were the immortal words from Gerard Houllier after a gut-wrenching 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils at Old Trafford in January of 1999. Houllier was never a manager chasing headlines with the way he spoke, but the Frenchman saw something in the team he had taken sole ownership over just a few months before after initially sharing the role with Roy Evans. It had been close to ten years of misery when playing

Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Emlyn's first night as a Red
Emlyn Hughes is one of Liverpool finest ever players and captains, having given 12 years sterling service to the club and captaining the Reds to their first European Cup success in 1977. Emlyn saw and did it all during his time on Merseyside, but of all the weird and wonderful things he experienced as a Liverpool player, perhaps nothing was as surreal and memorable as his first night as a Red. The following is an extract from Emlyn’s book, entitled ‘Emlyn Hughes: Crazy Horse’, and re
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Smith, Yeats and Mayhem in Majorca
Tommy Smith was known as the Anfield Iron and one of the hardest men to ever pull on the Red shirt. Ron Yeats was an even more fearsome individual, a man mountain who had made a living slaughtering animals in an abattoir before becoming a professional footballer. Yeats struck fear into Liverpool's opponents during the 1960s, while his young apprentice Smith took over the mantle throughout the following decade. The following extract, taken from Smith’s book, Tommy Smith: I Did it the
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Steve McMahon - Switching Sides
Swapping Everton for Liverpool is always a contentious move likely to upset fans of the Blues, but when you’re a local lad, boyhood fan and a player who became club captain it’s going to sting a lot more. Steve McMahon could have joined Liverpool immediately after walking away from Goodison Park. He was out of contract and there would have been nothing Everton could have done to stop it, but out of respect for his boyhood club McMahon instead chose to make a two year stop at Aston V
