Went to watch the football in the local sports bar opposite the Marbella H10 Hotel and Casino in Nueva Andalucia and with about 10 minutes to go I got a chance to chat with Roy Evans who was wearing shorts and a LFC shirt... The following is a brief summation of our chat rather than word for word and the subjects discussed were not necessarily discussed in the order typed

 

I started by saying I wish this Liverpool team played liked his team to which he replied no one plays with a smile on his face anymore not like Stevie or Macca. I got the impression that he was very disillusioned with the way LFC play football and football in general but if you’re a LFC fan and watched us every week you could see why you could become disillusioned especially after your own team used to play beautiful football

 

We then talked about the season he nearly won the title and being the diplomatic person I am I said it could have been very different if it hadn’t been for the Coventry game and David James in the Utd game. I also added that David James also won us a lot of points especially when we won 1-0 at Spurs and if it hadn’t been for him we would have lost. He replied all you want is for you keepers not to make howlers. I do think he still holds James responsible for the title that got away.

 

Talking about Hodgson he turned round to me and said who do you think will get the stick tomorrow certainly not the players it was a shameful performance by them and as a manager you can only do so much you set them up to play but when they cross the line it’s down to them.

 

I pointed out that the players were only carrying out the instructions of the manager and for example the fact Rafa defended higher up the pitch meant Torres got the ball a lot earlier and therefore was much more effective for a Rafa team as we were too stretched he didn’t agree with me just said the players should do better.

 

We then talked about possible replacements and I suggested Coyle and Holloway as managers who try to play football the right way he agreed it would be better to watch but the only problem with going for a manager who hasn’t managed at a big club is they can’t hack it at a Liverpool just look as Hodgson is struggling now.

 

The final part was I said I am off to the beach to which Roy replied the view will be better there, In fact he was wrong about that just repulsive beer gutted Germans mean and women.

 

Summed up the day really.

I still get very nostalgic about the 94/95, 95/96 and 96/97 seasons. Even though you can look back at it as the spice bous era and the fact we didn;t win anything, it was still one o the most enjoyable times me as a Liverpool fan. We played some great stuff, had a scoue manager and lots of home grown players.

 

Fowler nd Mcmanaman were incredible and then Owen emerged too.It's such a pity that team couldn't qutie make it to the next leevel.

 

What is Roy up to these days?
