Yeah, they seem to be really struggling this season, which is pretty strange considering they finished 3rd last season. They did lose Mario Gomez to Bayern in the summer though, and he was their main goalscorer.

I'm sure he'll be back in management soon enough though.

Just checked, and they're currently 16th in the Bundesliga (there's only 18 teams in the league), with two league wins in fifteen games all season.

Hertha Berlin are bottom with five points, seven points off safety. They must really be missing Voronin!!!!

He "lost the dressing room". World soccer:

Stuttgart manager Marcus Babbel has disciplined another of his players with Jens Lehmann the latest to get on the wrong side of the coach.

Days after he stripped Thomas Hitzlsperger of the captaincy Babbel admitted he had taken action against his goalkeeper.

The 40-year-old is thought to have taken extra-time with his family instead of returning to training with the club.

"The comforts of life are over for now, we are in a precarious situation and leisure and family has to bow to our dangerous situation," Babbel told Stuttgarter Zeitung.

Meanwhile Hitzlsperger admitted that the decision to strip him of the captaincy was for the good of the team.

"This is definitely a tough decision, but looking at the facts currently everything needs only to be because of Vfb Stuttgart," he stated.

"Everyone needs to give up his own interests for the success of the team. Everyone is required to do his best for the team's cause."

Meanwhile new captain Matthieu Delpierre was keen to reiterate his manager's message.

"We have been getting into a very precarious situation and we can only get out of this if we are acting as a team on the pitch," he declared.

"We are currently heading to have a very important fixture, playing Bochum this Saturday. We have to win this match, no matter what."

It seems he really lost the fans too. He has a go at them here.

Former Liverpool star Babel sacked as VfB Stuttgart manager - IMScouting

Markus Babbel was yesterday sacked as manager of German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. Stuttgart finished an impressive third last season, but find themselves lying in 16 place with only 2 wins in 15 matches.

Babbel, who made 42 appearances for Liverpool, was sacked after Stuttgart could only manage a 1-1 draw with struggling Bochum. However, the Stuttgart fans had already started to turn on the team and in particular Babbel.

Before Sunday's match, the Stuttgart team bus was greeted by angry supporters and the team subjected to taunts during the game. Babbel was heavily critical of the crowd's behavior, telling the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper that the world had "learnt nothing" from the tragic death of Robert Enke.

"Even those who are described as millionaire footballers do not deserve…all this hatred.

"Saturday there were two players on the field that came from the youth team, and were afraid. The blame lies with the fans, " Babbel added.

However, Stuttgart still stand a chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Champions League, should they beat Romanians Unirea Urziceni this week.

I feel sorry for him, he was a decent bloke. Much more decent than some of the turds we have nowadays.
