Suarez: Keep or Sell?

  1. 1. Suarez: Keep or Sell?

    • Keep him; he is nuts but he is world class and we do not sell world class players.
    • Sell him; he is world class but too much of a nuisance to our club. Time to cash in.
    • Not sure if we should sell him or keep him.

I personally would get rid of him if he is disenchanted. He's disruptive enough when he's happy. Imagine the potential for chaos in and out of the team if he's pissed off?

This is where the ban comes in handy. When he's smashing up Melwood he will be banned anyway, come the end of September he will have had plenty of time to get his head together.

Unbelievable. I hardly think this is a come and get me plea. Sounds more like an attempt to warn off potential buyers to me.

Liverpool slap £55m price-tag on Suarez as Arsenal prepare increased bid

By This Is Anfield on July 19, 2013

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has compared the value of Luis Suarez to that of Edison Cavani, who signed for Paris St-Germain for £55million this week.

Luis Suarez

Suarez has been the subject of increased speculation, with the Uruguayan due to meet up with the Liverpool squad for pre-season training after this weekend.

Arsenal are so far the only club to have made a bid for Suarez, which, at £30million, was reject by Liverpool.

Real Madrid and Chelsea are the other two clubs said to be interested, although nothing official has been launched by either.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Indonesia, ahead of Saturday’s friendly against an Indonesian XI, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said Suarez needs to forget about moving to a Champions League club this summer.

“It’s not about me or the club, I think it’s the supporters and his team-mates for what they gave him,” Rodgers said.

“What I do is the same for anyone. My success is not just about trophies, although hopefully when I finish my career I will look back on having won things.

“For me it is about more than that. It’s about making people better people and supporting them when they need it. Luis doesn’t need to show me anything because that’s what I do.

“For me it’s about the great supporters we have. The backing they have given him is absolutely brilliant.

“They have stood by him through thick and thin, and through all the traumas he has gone through over the last couple of seasons.

“If there is anyone he owes it’s them and his team-mates, who have fought beside him, certainly not me.”

Rodgers added that the club are “in total control” of the transfer saga, and that the club value the 26-year-old at much higher than figures being touted.

“I don’t want to set a deadline or put a date on it but this is not something that will run too long,” he continued. “We are totally in control of the situation. It is one where we don’t have to sell. He has got three years left on his contract.

“We are prepared to get some players in and spend money without having to sell Luis Suarez. The reality is that we have had one offer.

“There can be as much speculation as you like, but there has been nothing beyond that.

“It was an offer for what they (Arsenal) considered his value and worth. Obviously for a player of his quality, when you consider that Cavani has gone for £55million you know… Luis is up there in that bracket of top talent.

“Obviously it was an offer we didn’t deem worthy of the talent and even if they came back with that kind of amount (£55million) there’s no guarantee he would be sold even for that because we are trying to build something here.

It's not a 'come and get me' plea, far from it. It is the opposite, he says Suarez stays and it is highly unlikely our club will accept any fee for him.

Stop trying to twist everything Rodgers says to make him seem bad. It is very tiresome.

He's our manager and you have done nothing but belittle him since he has joined the club. That's not 'The Liverpool Way', we usually back our managers.

Rodgers is spot on with those comments about Suarez.

If we really wanted to keep him, whats wrong with saying he has 3 years left of his contract and is not for sale at any price.

Instead he basically says we will sell him if you offer us around £50M, the going price for a striker of his quality.

He knows damn well nobody is going to offer 55 million for Luis Suarez. So it is as good as saying he is not for sale.

He's basically said he won't sell him for less than what Cavani went for.

I have no problem with us selling Suarez for £50 million, especially as he wants to go.

But if we don't get an offer that size - he stays. I think he's right to have that view.

In the world of Brendan Rodgers it is for some reason, probably because he needs to talk up the shite job he did last season.

I cant wait for the season to start , but one thing I've not missed is the Brendan Rodgers propaganda machine.

So you know what Brendan Rodgers thinks?

You really a piece of work, and the fact that you get so many negative replies from posters but still do not alter your views, means that you will never evolve intellectually.

In many ways I feel sorry for you.

Am I ranting about how crap Rodgers is?

How many times the last 20 years have we not been playing in Europe?

We are not doing that this season are we, so I would hardly call it a club moving forward.

I could go on and on, but will not bother.

And whats the Rafa thing you talk about?

Self contradictory. You could go on and on, and you do !

I actually enjoy some of your posts and appreciate the angles you come from.

But you're a broken fucking record with your negative shite about Rodgers & Rafa. Whether that's your intention or some sort of mental issue you have, I don't know. The glass isn't half empty with you, it got stolen by Rafa & Brendan !

So you know what Brendan Rodgers thinks?

Its difficult not to isnt it, I have never seen a man talk so much about everything playing onto every cliche in the world, everywhere and all the time in my entire life.

He must think most people are idiots, going by the reactions to his interviews he seems to be right at that score at least.

If he wasnt for sale he would say he's not for sale at any price.

But would you believe that? Managers of football clubs are not gullible enough to believe that. Everyone has their price. And when the players are showing their knickers to all and sundry than the manager needs to take that into account.

There is no guarantee that Suarez would be a positive influence if he was to remain at the club against his wishes.

Any prospective buyer would be better advised to let Liverpool bear the cost of suarez's suspension and bid in Jan anyway.

What's this based on and why would we do it?

Makes no sense.

Just a guess, Tom.

The Brendan Rodgers interview (the club tells the fans only what it wants us to know) and the unreliable British media are all that we have to go on. Ultimately, we don't know what is going on behind closed doors, nor do we know how Suarez will react if a move away is looking unlikely.

My guess is that he wants to play Champions League football, and has/will make it clear that he doesn't want to be here this season. I feel that FSG/Rodgers won't want an unhappy player in the dressing room and will sell for around £40m with add-ons/player part exchange.

The last sentence is very possible. Pre supposing suarez does want to leave, if no club bids sufficiently high in this window, they could sit tight, let him serve the ban and make a move in the january window.

He's still be free to play in the CL, he'd have served his ban and will be fit barring injuries.

I actually think you're right here, Tony. And I believe the fee you've quoted will be about right as well.

If he's to go, we really need a moneybags club to come in for him. That's why Napoli got £55m (or whatever) for Cavani. City, Chelsea, PSG, Anzhi etc, pay stupid money for players.

From an outsiders veiw, you'd be fucking mad to willingly sell suarez.

Maybe you've become spoilt having a seemingly never ending conveyor belt of world class strikers, hunt, keegan, tosack, rush, kenny, owen, fowler, torres and suarez.

Remember man utd in the 70s early eighties? They used to pay big money every year on a new striker and they all turned out shit, they had the same problem with goalies.

The liverpool board should imo grow a pair, tell him to stick to his contract this year, with the promise that if liverpool fail to hit the champs league or win trophies, he can go next summer, then the board/owners should tell themselves, the manager and the rest of the players to pull their fucking finger out and make sure it happens.
