TK's Ratings - FC Basel (away)

It's TK's Ratings, bitches. Back in effect.

Mignolet - 4.  Spilled the ball into dangerous areas and paid the price.  Every aspect of his game is sub-standard on present form.

Manquillo - 5.  Got forward a few times but his end product was inconsistent at best.  Coped well defensively in general against a team who love to attack down the flanks.

Skrtel - 5.  Got caught in a funny position for their goal but could he expect Mignolet to do better and palm the ball away from danger?  He was pretty solid otherwise.

Lovren - 6. Rarely troubled and distributed the ball pretty well.  His best game to date?  Has to stay in the team with Skrtel.

Enrique - 6.  Got caught the wrong side of his man a couple of times but otherwise I can not fault him.  He worked really hard, got forward a few times and used his trademark recovery pace to good effect against the lively Gonzalez.

Gerrard - 4.  Wasteful in possession and looked uneasy against Base'ls unusual formation.  Set pieces were disappointing, too.

Henderson - 5.  He was not his usual influential self and like Gerrard did not seem to get to grips with Basel's fluid set up.   Anonymous in the first half.

Coutinho - 4.  Like a shit Pablo Aimar.  Running down blind alleys, over-hitting passes, under-hitting back passes and generally breaking down attacks.  Not what we need.

Markovic - 4.  Another inept display.  The odd flash of creativity but not enough to justify him starting.  He tried to be a bit more direct but it still did not work for him.

Sterling - 4.  We have to accept that he will have the odd bad game and this was one of them.  One of the others needs to do something when he has games like this, which he will because he is still young and the games come around quickly.  His decision making and touch were not up to their usual standards.

Balotelli - 4.  Like the others he chose the wrong option, was wasteful with good possession and picked up a needless yellow card. We need goals, not an Italian Emile Heskey.

Subs

Lallana - 5. He was okay but was not given long enough to make an impact.

Lambert - 5. Whatevs.

Rodgers - 4.  Reacted late with his subs and had no answer to Basel's tactical reshuffle following an early injury.  Seems unable to find his best XI in Sturridge's absence.

I don't think Lallana even had a touch, did he? Chasing a game away in the CL and leaves Borini on the bench instead of taking off a useless Gerrard or Sterling?! What's the fucking point of even bringing him.

I think Rodgers has his pets (Coutinho, Markovic, Lambert, et al.) and is punitive towards others. The blame tonight starts with him, not a 19 year old kid expected to do everything while his shite buys and worse subs stink the place out.

If there was one player who deserved better than a 3 it was lost on me, truly desperate by the lot of them.

Mario was -3 and Skrtel back boncing the ball onto Lovren's fat arse for Mignolet to palm direct to their 70 year old to knock into our empty net just summed up the rest of them.

Harsh on Mignolet. He didn't spill the ball, he made a very good fingertip save. Too bad none of his teammates were alert enough to clear it away afterwards.

Generous on Lovren, Enrique, Sterling and Balotelli who all made a lot more mistakes than Simon did.

All, imho.
