Wahoo!!

Reds agree Enrique deal - Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC confirmed today that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Jose Enrique.

The club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.

BBC reporting its done deal

-------------------------

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Spanish defender Jose Enrique.

The 25-year-old left-back joined Newcastle for £6.3m in 2007 but hit out at the club last month on Twitter.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has been looking for a left-back since selling Paul Konchesky to Leicester earlier this summer

Ummm...

Just reading the Echo piece has reminded me of the incredible fact that 7 players filled the left back spot last season. Aurelio, Robinson, Flanagan, Agger, Wilson, Johnson and Konchesky.

Thankfully we'll have consistency this season.

THE acquisition of Jose Enrique could prove to be Kenny Dalglish’s most important signing of the summer.

Left-back has been a huge problem for Liverpool in recent years and the Reds boss is confident the Spaniard will finally provide a solution.

The need for a quality new recruit in the backline has been glaring during pre-season as Liverpool have shipped goals far too frequently.

Emiliano Insua has failed to grab his chance to shine after returning from a loan spell at Galatasaray, while Fabio Aurelio can’t be relied upon to last the pace this season. The Brazilian’s quality is beyond question but his brittle body frequently lets him down.

Youngster Jack Robinson continues to shine and has a big future ahead of him but it would be a huge ask to rely on a 17-year-old to perform at the highest level week in week out.

A year ago Roy Hodgson believed Paul Konchesky was the answer but the £3.5million signing from Fulham proved to be way out of his depth at Anfield.

Over the course of last season Aurelio, Robinson, John Flanagan, Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger and Danny Wilson also had spells at left-back.

In truth that spot in the side hasn’t been nailed down since John Arne Riise was shown the door in the summer of 2008. The £7million spent on Andrea Dossena three years ago proved to be wasted and since then left-back has been a growing concern.

In modern football the role of full-backs is crucial to a side’s attacking ability. On the right Liverpool have one of the best in the business in Glen Johnson and with Enrique on board they will finally enjoy similar quality on the opposite flank.

Jose Enrique could be Liverpool's most important signing of the summer

Constantly be looking to remove the dead wood. That has to be the philosophy.

That's the thing, though. Downing is THE worst winger in the HISTORY of the club, we'll end up having to PAY whoever takes him at least 20m an hour for the rest of his contract.

Then there's Adam, NOBODY would be enough stupid to buy him so we'll be paying him 100bn a year(that's not including his TRILLION pound signing on fee) to sit on our bench for the next CENTURY.

Can you EVER SHUT UP and WAIT for the SEASON to START before making a JUDGEMENT on PLAYERS who have not yet PLAYED for the CLUB?

THANKS
