I'm off to Krakow with the missus on Friday for a long weekend, got a swanky hotel booked, but with never having been to the place before I was wondering if anybody has, and could recommend me anything worthwhile to go to/do/see whilst I'm there? I mean, aside from the obvious which is Auschwitz which we are going to.

Any tips or ideas would be great, ie places to eat, drink (hear the ale is cheap, so that's ace) and generally be merry.

Once I went around Krakow but did not stop there so I am sorry. But whole Poland is cheap as fuck, Slovaks from border towns go there for shopping and you will surely find there everything cheap.

And as far as I know Krakow has beautiful historical centre, so you can check it there.

Have a nice weekend.

There are a few Kraków threads around here that'll be helpful. It's an historic, beautiful city in spots. Not 100% safe at night, but what big city is? Great looking women. Beer is CHEAP, food is cheap, but clothes/electronics are definitely not. But you can eat and drink well for primo prices.

Maybe take a bus out to Oświęcim (Auschwitz) if you can.

Krakow is Ace cheap as chips too

The main square is really nice and most of the bars are around it

Auschwitz is deffo worth doing but is very eerie,my advice would be dont do the organised trip, you can get a bus there form the main bus station and its about a quid, and picks you up too.Its free to get into the museum and you can walk round at your own pace and not with a big gang of Germans and Chinese with massive headphones on

As Remmie mentioned,go to the salt mines we never went but heard its good

We walked to Oscar Schindlers factory, its in the Jewish quarter but murder to find

If there is a match on while ur there go to one of the Irish bars

Have a good time

I was there in August, brilliant place and i plan to go back.

We stayed in apartments in the Jewish quarter which is an excellent part of the city, used to be the most dangerous but its all cleaned up and is probably now the safest. Its got a really good atmosphere around there as theres a few really cool pubs, one place is just lit by candles and there's a wardrobe there where you open it up and theres another room beyond the doors.

Woman are unbelievable, the best i've seen. Booze is cheap as fuck as is the food, try not to go into the obvious tourist traps where its a little dearer.

We done the guided tour of Auschwitz which was really good as we learned loads about it by doing that and then they bring you over to Birkenau which is the massive camp where they killed millions, haunting place but ruined a bit by tourists taking pictures of themselves with a gas chamber in the backround.

Salt mines are worth a look too especially the church like Remmie mentioned.

The main square is fucking massive and there's loads of cool buildings everywhere.

If you want to learn how to say how are you and thank you just watch Borat as he speaks Polish, thank you is dzienkuje and How are you is Jak se mas.

Enjoy it you lucky lucky bastard.
