I think 352 could be used agains the teams we struggle to break down but not against top sides.

--------------Reina-------------

----Skrtel ---Carra ----Agger ----

Kuyt ---Xabi----Masch----Aurelio

-------Yossi-----Gerrard----------

-------------Torres---------------

Has a lot of balance with the three at the back and good width.

Benayoun and Gerrard given license to interchange and get beyond Torres.

That there is the other problem for me, that pairing is too benign for this formation.

What do people think of us using this formation? Personally, I think we should use it a lot more often, as I think it suits the players we currently have. For whatever reason, we don't seem to be as fluent playing the 4-2-3-1 like we did last season, but maybe that will change now we have Torres back scoring goals.

Would solve a few problems I reckon. Firstly, we could have Skrtel, Carra and Agger all playing at the back. With Agger on the left hand side, and Skrtel or Carra on the right hand side of the three, it gives us good balance, and it keeps all three of them happy.

Then, it gives the full backs more freedom to get down the line. If Arbeloa could improve his crossing, he would be far more dangerous going forward. Insua, Dossena or Aurelio would all be able to play as wing back aswell.

We could still have Alonso and Mascherano in the centre, and have Gerrard playing in a free role behind the front two, of Torres and Dirk.

On Saturday, it seemed some of our players played with a lot more freedom, mainly because the width naturally came from the full backs, and the likes of Yossi and Babel had more freedom in the middle. The movement seemed pretty good aswell.

Anyway, I think we should give it a shot, can't be much worse than some of the football we've played this season.

Opinions?

Ive been preaching this for a considerable time, especially against the lesser sides and with our strongest line up it ticks all the box's for me. It even encourages the opposition to attack us more by leaving space behind our defense. This in turn leaves space for our attackers to get at.

Definitely for our home games were teams effectively park that bus. Certainly more entertaining.

If we play 5 midfielders in midfield and not two defenders out wide its a formation we could use in a few games, the problem is that you will end up with 5 defenders on the pitch 90% of the time if I should take an educated guess.

Another thing is that you will never win anything if 3 at the back is your preferred formation, its too easy to exploit for the better teams and unless you play 5 midfielder and not 5 defenders you will not win enough games.

Posted this on my account visitor messages about a month ago - we defo need a central defender who is really good on the ball aka Agger.

Since we are garbage out wide only having 2 players there instead of 4 kinda makes sense.

I'm not sure it should be our preferred system but it certainly has its merit for a number of games. The trick is for the manager to know which.

Oh and ironically, Keane possibly would have fitted into a 3-5-2 system with Gerrard still given a free licence.

I'm still a firm believer in 4-5-1 with Stevie playing off Torres. We just need to rectify our relative weakness out wide in the summer.
