Lets get this straight. I'm a nutter for suggesting that one of the greatest directors ever  made a film that may have a deeper underlying message than what is obvious. But it really is a film about big shark bites people. And I'm drinking.

You called a shark an alien. What are you drinking? Turps?

I'm not sure I agree with PST on the meaning of the films but I knew what he meant when he was calling the shark 'alien'.

I think the whole point of films like that is interpretation. And the measure of a great director. If you want a  monster shark bites swimmers its there. If you want an attack on small town American values its there.

Jaws is obviously a subtle take on capitalism with the local major more worried about money than safety.

And ET is obviously a story about refugees who influence good kids to go on the run amd hide the ileagles

Commie plots the pair of them.

Get a good film on like Any which way but lose or Smokey and the Bandit

The book is more erotic than the film. Jaws that is. Not an alien in sight. A big fuck off shark yeah but no alines. You silly stupid bastards. What next, Shawshank Redemption was actually an advertisement for felt roofing?

Sorry pal one of my kids is in the film industry and bursts my head every time we watch something and it turns out i'm not watching what I thought I was. Loads of popular films we take for granted have a much deeper interpretation if you want it. Jaws is the tip of an iceberg it's best not to scale.

Titanic was about Jimmy Bullard

Everything's open to interpretation but Jaws is a film about a shark eating people. No aliens.
