LFCScouser on RAWK says SSN are linking us to Geremi...

A possibility as an RW i'd have thought. Rafa will know him from Real, plus he scored 7 for boro from right wing before chelsea reinvented him. Didnt he curl a beauty if a free kick to beat us that season.

What would be the point of replacing Pennant with Geremi?

None whatsoever, utter madness, whether you rate Pennant or not.

Geremi was a decent player before he went to Chelsea. That said, he'd be a squad man for us and we really need better. I'm hoping for 3 top signings for now and assorted youngsters for the day after tomorrow. Geremi fits neither of these categories so would be a strange signing.

three top signings at, say, 26.5 million quid...thats, 79.5 million quid. Don't forget, the new owners aren't using THEIR money to pay for this. who's gonna pick up the pieces in 12 months if we end up with nothing at the end of the season, and a stadium not started, and the yanks scuttling back home having walked away?

The only way I could see Geremi fit into the squad is if Arbeloa is going to be used in his natural posistion at Centre Half.

Are you really as daft as you seem determined to demonstrate?

I'm not sure how much shevchenko cost chelsea, but we're setting a precident here if we buy Torres for the kind of money being bandied about; once it's done, everyone will want a slice of the action. From then on, with so much foreign ownership in english clubs, and a new fashion springing up of Overseas Ownership + increased revenues from tv money (already the players greedy agents are upping the anti, wanting their share of the big money) prices for players aren't going down, their going up.

If we think we can get another couple of top players after landing Torres without spending big, I think we're mistaken. (Bent 16.5 million? Hargreaves 17 million?))

I'm conservative when it comes to business, yes, and I'm still not convinced that the new owners, have their hearts in the right place. For me there are a lot of unanswered questions about what their expectations are from their new acquisition, but I do know this: the football market is being changed dramatically with all this investment.

I've seen managers come, spend, and go...with no real reward to the fans, and players fees just going into orbit.

I prefer the middle road. So far Rafa has done miracles on bugger all. I don't want the club to lose sense.

Err, the football market is still quite modest compared to the market at the turn of the century.

Ultimately the likes of West Ham are just doing what Parma and Lazio did in the late 90's early 00's but still on a far smaller scale.
