I don't think he is shit, he would have done a job for us as 3rd/4th choice which is what Toure will be imo but would have in no way warranted the fee we would have had to have paid for Williams, add to that he seems a bit of a cock too

Yeah well I do and we wouldn't have been looking at Williams as a 3rd/4th choice cb.

This last season, most City fans feared the worst when we had to call on Kolo... but he surprised us all.

He can still play a full 90, and has a footballing mind that's certainly above average - but to be fair, he needs it.

He clearly has weight issues (as does his brother I'd say), but as a squad player, I think he's a very decent addition.

If Liverpool are relying on him week in week out, I think it's a poor move, but if he's played sparingly and wisely, then I think it's a great move.

I've assumed it's a free transfer (I don't know the details, but it's been known he's going from City for months), and I expect the wages aren't too horrific (he'll be glad to move to another top team imo).

Clearly, he's not the future of Liverpool, but he's decent cover for next season. After that? - I'd hope Liverpool would have secured a better (with a longer future) replacement.

For me, it's an intelligent and relatively cheap move by Liverpool (again, assuming he's on a free).

Cheers FC.

I don't think he will be the only CB we sign this summer so I can't see him being a first team regular. We are very short of an experienced leader back there after Carra's departure, so as a short term squad player- it's a no brainer.

You're a Man City fan. Why would you wish us well? Bit weird that, Fanchester.

Thanks though.

Decent this I reckon. He's landed on his feet here, now he's signed for two big clubs with man city between them to top up his bank account.

Reservedly very happy to see a proven winner want to sign for us but hopeful he's not seen as the answer to all our defensive questions. Clearly he wants to play else he'd be happy sitting on his arse with that shower. Welcome Kolo. Looking forward to seeing you in a red shirt.

Good video just to remind some people of his quality.

I think he's a good signing, but there are definitely gaps in his game now, he's 32 and just been released on a free, so let's not go expecting Jaap Stam circa 2003.

That said, Rodgers and his crew aren't idiots, and I expect that we've talked to him and he's come across as being hungry to succeed and not just rock up and collect a cheque each week. I'd also be surprised if this was a straight £xm per week deal, he's had injuries and he's failed a drugs test, so Id expect a medium sized wage on a short term contract, with big bonuses.

We don't sign 32 year old players, but we just have, so I expect there to be very good reason for it and I look forward to seeing our own hutu warlord, just as I asked for last year. Anyone think he can moonlight as a defensive mid if necessary?

Don't read too much into this signing though, this is a stop-gap, and although I am quite apprehensive about the name 'Kolo Toure', I am also very much a fan of the club's ability to spot good players at present, and that Toure is coming because they see something excellent in him, somewhere.

It is also widely believed that we will be bidding for Scott Sinclair this week as well. I'd be a fan of that move also. Sinclair was excellent for Swansea, people have very short memories. He fits the bill, adaptable attacking player who can create and score goals, and probably at a knockdown price compared with someone like Ince.

No, he's not Hazard, but we can't get Hazard yet, ok.

Sinclair is what Downing should have been, a good performer with 5-10 goals a season, and 10-15 assists. Nothing spectacular, but very useful. And that's all we need in order to get into the top four, to do the simple things well.

It's a chance to reignite his career and I wouldn't be surprised to see him take it. I can see him being in the first 11 for us at the start of the season. If he had gone somewhere else I would have been saying why didn't we get him. It's not much of a risk. I think it's a clever signing.

"I'd" in this context means "I would" (if I were a Liverpool fan). I'd be hoping he's a short term fix, while you find a long term solution - which I think, is better than rushing and grabbing whatever is available, even if it's not right.

I'm not saying I wish you well! (although actually I do, just not as well as us!).

Glad to get him off our books though, simply because of the wages and not wanting an aging squad.

Problem is, you never know when a player has decided to switch off in terms of motivation. He's gone to Liverpool either because he still wants to play competitively, or because it's a big name club and they'll pay fair wages while he sits on his arse...

You'll not know until he starts playing (but he put in a shift for us when called upon).

He can play right back too!

Although sometimes he thinks he's playing right back when CB, and vice versa (joking)

our youth system seem to specialise in right backs so hopefully we won't be buying right backs for a long time yet

we've got Johnson who obviously we brought in as first choice and has been great for us but after him we have Kelly who in my opinion there can't be many better back up fullbacks in the league, just a shame about the injuries, Flanagan who had an excellent debut against you lot a couple of years ago and has impressed at times but gone of the boil a bit lately but still has time on his side, Wisdom who was very impressive last season although I see his long term future at centre back and then Ryan Mclaughlin who made his debut against Roma in a friendly last summer and did an excellent job on Francesco Totti and has already been called up to the Northern Ireland squad and regular reserve and youth team watches rate him very highly

I recon the City scouts we recruited may have had alot to do with this move

Yeah, you'd think that they've seen a lot of him and would warn us off him if his head or his heart wasn't in the right place.

The centre back slot at City was hotly contested, and City's cast-offs in that position are better than our first choices, let's be honest.

Kompany, Nastasic, Lescott, Richards, you'd sniff at none of them, and the first two are boss. Perhaps City even offered Toure a new deal and he turned it down this year?

I remember people sniffing at the chance to sign Distin when he wound his City contract down and signed for Portsmouth in 2007. Great signing, top class centre back for years he was, and we dropped a bollock by not getting in there. 6 years later, 35 years old now, and he's still got loads of quality for Everton.

Good to see that from the sounds of things we're putting athleticism above all other traits for a centre back. Williams is a beast and so is Toure, and I'm very glad we're realising that now it seems. Great upper body strength, pace, acceleration, and brave. The T1000 version of them, like Thiago Silva, is what you buy when you've got CL football to lure them in.

Kolo Toure vs Chelsea | HD - YouTube

That's kolo against Chelsea the season just finished, he looks far from finished in this and on that form he could compete for a starting place alongside agger.

As a 3rd/4th choice cb this is an excellent signing, always rated kolo highly and have never really seen him bullied or embarrassed by any forward.

We've got three players with league winners medals. Johnson, Sturridge and now Toure.

Good signing this, too. Logical replacement for the job Carra was supposed to have done last season, beofre Skrtel decided he didn't know how to play football anymore.

think that is something we can all agree on

I endorse this to the hilt.

So long as the wage structure is decent "which it must be else we would have not done the deal" it's good business.

He has a few years left, he is very good and if he has a point to prove even better. I think this is low risk solid business that takes immediate pressure off us and gives us greater clout in the market over summer. Good deal.
