I've just had a rather large Jim Beam and Coke, went in the kitchen to make another and realised I don't want to drink. I just want cake.

 

Luckily I bought these earlier so I have had one. Ok, two. What? I did not. No way. Yeah alright, three.

 

I'm debating having a fourth.

I bought some French Fancies the other day. Used to love them back in the day but its lost it's sparkle. Need to bring back all those lovely E numbers.

Instead, I got some cheap sponge cake from Asda.

I only have cake once in a blue moon from the local WI (Women's Institute). If there is one thing little old ladies know how to do, it's to bake a fackin cake!

Cheap as well, it's about £2.80 for a nice thick chocolate cake covered in buttons and generous fillings. Might splash out and get myself a birthday cake from the WI.

My daughter works with someone that as a hobby makes cakes like this above. (No that wasn't a cake for me) very reasonable cost and made a great xbox 360 cake for my son.

self raising flour, sugar, butter, eggs makes a great sponge, two of them with a layer of jam and butter cream in the middle, lovely stuff.

Christmas cake baking with my daughter over the weekend.  So far, including steeping the fruit, the cake has drunk a full bottle of rum and half a bottle of madeira sherry.  It's sitting in a cupboard with fumes coming off it.  I'm terrified of it.

Rum and sherry, eh? I've only ever used brandy. I'm feeling a bit mean here only ever using a few tablespoons
