A Bengal tiger has killed a lion at Ankara Zoo after finding a gap in the fence separating their cages, say zoo officials in the Turkish capital.

 

The tiger severed the lion's jugular vein in a single stroke with its paw, leaving the animal dying in a pool of blood, officials said.

 

They denied local media reports that the tiger had broken down the fence during the incident last September.

 

The zoo says it is safe for visitors, despite the incident.

 

Six tigers and two lions remain at the zoo.

Probably wouldn't happen in the wild as Tigers are generally solitary animals whilst the Lion has it's pride. One on one situation there is only going to be one winner like as the Tiger is the larger animal and a right vicious bastard. They have some Siberian Tigers in a zoo near to us and they are fucking huge.

Just to clarify Lurtz, we are talking about fully grown Lions and Tigers?

 

The reason I ask is that I regularly have 'Tigon Battles' with my stuffed toy Timmy the Tiger and Lucy the Lioness and as Timmy is smaller (about 8inches high) and Lucy is a girl they very rarely truly fight but just growl at each other. It's obviously me making the 'growly' noices but you get the point.
