Roy is now officially a lame duck manager - not such a wise move NESV

it'll be splattered all over the papers tonight that the guy will be effectively when they can identify and recruit their man (if the CEO search is anything to go by, these boys take their time) which could take anything between a few months and the end of the season

Sources also claimed yesterday that comolli is responsible for the January window signings so what possible fcuking motivation will Roy have now to do a good job, jesus when he tries his best he is fcuking woeful, imagine how he'll be when he's not half-arsed, maybe send out 9 players and put Brad Jones up front.

Are NESV trying to get him to resign?

He won't, this will embolden him further, in his senile world he'll believe " a few results and I'll turn it around"

Roy you're a dead man walking, you're a lame duck, everyone who counts wants you gone, the fans and some staff/players...only your buddies in the media and a few players who you bend over for (Carra and Stevie) want you to stay.

You have abysmal in everything you have done so please resign and show us that you are the dignified nice man we are constantly told you are

and NESV this is a very dangerous move, leaving a guy in charge who knows he is on his way means he will be demotivated and so will the staff/players as they all wait and see who will eventually take over.

I didn't think things could get any worse, making him officially a "lame duck" manager could just do that

A) There's already a thread

B) You talk as though it's an official release and not a story in a NEWSCORP publication

C) The story is not groundbreaking in the slightest, the only thing that separates this above the Mail story is that they used Twitter to build up some anticipation.

The Times are a credible source though and wouldn't publish unless from a reputable source

apologies for starting the thread if this is being discussed elsewhere

Imagine an entire forum of Liverpool fans unaware of this, that there are no threads about it at all!

Yeah, but the Chinese that have bought the club obviously don't want to sack Roy right now.

Yeah, results might suffer!

It was Evans who was pushing that though, I think Barrett is rarely wrong, maybe once about signing Silva

I respect Tony Barrett, but my comment was to illustrate the pitfalls of your 'the Times is a credible source' and 'wouldn't print unless from a reliable source' mantra.

I'm not for a second suggesting that they're wrong. I've not even read the article yet, just snippets from this Jim guy from Twitter. However, I think these comments - from God knows whom - should be taken in context. On the day that Roy Hodgson said he won't be quitting, it seems fishy that this should come out at the same time. It could be from either camp, or neither. It could mean a number of things and, without knowing the source, it's just a guessing game.

If I hadn't repped you recently I'd have done it for that one. Very credible source this Times newspaper...

ah come on lads, we all know they got that one wrong and the very fact it stands out suggest they don't bullshit as a habit...i'm not saying this stuff is gospel, all i am saying is i certainly would pay more attention to something coming from barrett/the times than from the fail and the assorted tabloid rags...there very well may be something in this

It actually tells us very little more than we already suspected. FSG are clearly not stupid and will have been looking at new managers way before tonight or the Wolves result.

sounds like a goodbye speech

Roy Hodgson's Liverpool woe: in his own words | Football | guardian.co.uk

'Two defeats in a row – one against a team you are expected to beat – that is a time to be lonely and hurt'

The Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson says it has been an 'uphill struggle' at Anfield The Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, says it has been an 'uphill struggle' at Anfield. Photograph: Clive Brunskill/Getty Images

Roy Hodgson became manager of Liverpool 183 days ago. On the day he got the job he said: 'I always knew Liverpool fans were special. The motto "You'll never walk alone" is really lived by the fans. It's a club where you feel you're not alone.' Today those words came back to haunt him.

"After the defeat by Wolves I thought I did quite a good job to disguise the hurt, the sadness and, to some extent, the anger that I was feeling. To take stick from the crowd and then to stand up in a press conference and say I understood and sympathised with them ... It is always going to be the case as a manager that when things are going wrong you are going to get that flak, that stick. It is unfortunate for me that fans should think I went into a press conference with a view to attacking them because nothing could be further from the truth.

"Two or three weeks ago we were on a good roll and playing some good football and everything looked so bright and positive. A very good performance at Tottenham, which should have encouraged people, has now become just another defeat. Then we had the last two defeats, against Newcastle and Wolves, which have hurt us very badly and hurt me very badly. It has swung things round enormously and put us in the situation where we find ourselves today. I cannot emphasise enough that it hurts me deeply. It hurts my professional pride. It hurts all the things I believe in to find myself in the situation I am in but I have to accept it. I feel very bad and very down.

"I have the experience but it has been an uphill struggle since I came here. Maybe that was the point I was trying to make [about the famous Anfield support] which has been interpreted as a crack against the fans. I have had a lot of situations to deal with and worked very hard to put together a team that knows what it is doing and can produce winning football. Along the way there have been some very big setbacks which have thrown me into the limelight and the firing line. I accept it as part of taking a job of this stature.

"Last night I saw a quote from Benjamin Disraeli when he became prime minster: 'I have achieved my goal and climbed to the top of the greasy pole.' That is really what we do. That is how I feel. Coming to Liverpool for me was a pinnacle; to some extent it was a reward for the work I had put in, not just at Fulham but in the years before. It was a recognition of my competence. You come here hoping you will keep flying forward but, yes, I did know it would be difficult. If we can between now and the end of the season get the results everybody wants, people will respect us more for the hardship we have gone through. It is a cliché but we coaches do need time, patience and support. Support at this club is of vital importance because that is what has made it great through the years – the feeling that Liverpool is a bit special and that people get together when things are not going well.

"It would be nice to have people around you who could help you a bit more but it doesn't really work that way. It is a lonely job being the manager of a top club. You can't expect people to help you too much. The staff are very good and supportive – and so too are the players – but your family is the most important during these times. They try to encourage you that life isn't all doom and gloom and there might be a bright spot somewhere along the way. That is what you have to cling on to.

"Two defeats in a row – and one of them at home against a team you are expected to beat – that is a time when you are going to be very hurt and upset about everything. Lonely is not the wrong word to use because, to be quite honest, you don't want company anyway. You want to be left alone with your thoughts. They are not pleasant thoughts but you don't have the desire to do anything other than sit around with them."

Fucking hell. This is embarassing.

Liverpool fans petition for Roy Hodgson to be sacked | Mail Online

Roy Hodgson is under increasing pressure to save his job as Liverpool fans launched a petition demanding him to be sacked.

After the shock 1-0 home defeat to lowly Wolves, Hodgson is facing calls to step down despite just six months in charge. The Reds currently sit just three points above the Barclays Premier League relegation zone after a disastrous start to the campaign.

Hodgson has now insisted he will never quit Liverpool despite having to apologise for offending fans with his comments made after Wednesday's loss.

Supporters have added over 10,000 signatures to an online petition directed at owners Fenway Sports Group - led by John Henry and Tom Werner - calling for Hodgson to be removed immediately.

The accompanying letter, which runs to almost 3,000 words, lists the reasons why they want the former Fulham boss to be booted out.

The letter is divided into sections highlighting Hodgson's perceived weaknesses, headlined 'Inexperience at the top level', 'Relationship with the fans/Communication with the media', 'Signings' and 'Statistics' before concluding with a final 'Please Act Now' plea.
