Nick Cave

Nick Cave is indeed officially ace. I know very little of his music and would no doubt be left distinctly underwhelmed by much of it (although I do like the odd thing). However, the world would be a far shittier place without him. Emphatically his own man.

I tried to read it some years ago. I never got to the end of it, so I'm asking the same question as you: Is it worth another go?

Read it years ago, loved it.

This song is oft overlooked, but is one of my absolute Cave favourites.

We'll start at the beginning with a bit of Birthday Party.

I first heard this song (and saw the video) when I was about 14. Like a lot of his best stuff, its genuinely disturbing.

I wanted to put "In the Ghetto" on next but its disabled on Youtube, so instead we'll skip and album and go to "Tupelo" from "The First Born is Dead". Another disturbing song. Bloody embedding disabled on that too, so I can't post the original

His version of "Black Betty" from "Kicking Against the Pricks"

Another scary song. "The Carny" from "Your Funeral, My Trial"

Moving into stuff people will know now.

"The Mercy Seat"

"Deanna" - a Nick Cave pop song

"Foi Na Cruz" from "The Good Son" (one of his best albums IMO)

Title track

"Lament" - also from "The Good Son"

The song that got me into him to start with "Jack The Ripper" from "Henry's Dream"

"Papa Won't Leave You, Henry"

"I Had a Dream, Joe"

Onto "Let Love In". One of his most successful, but not really one of my favourites for some reason.

"Thirsty Dog"

"Loverman"

Stagger Lee from "Murder Ballads"

"The Boatman's Call" next. One of his best. More familiar songs..

"Into My Arms". Beautiful song

"People Ain't No Good"

"God Is In The House" from "No More Shall We Part"

One of my favourite songs. "Bring It On" from "Nocturama". Features the singer from Aussie punk band, Saints. Who were ace too. Video has writhing ladies. Result.

Onto "Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus". One of his most accessible albums.

"Nature Boy"

"Get Ready For Love". Immense. Paul - if you're going to like a Nick Cave song, I reckon it'll be this one.

"There She Goes, My Beautiful World"

Soundtrack stuff with Warren Ellis. "The Proposition"

"Gun Thing"

"Song For Bob" from "The Assassination of Jesse James"

"No Pussy Blues" from the Grinderman "Project"

"Dig Lazarus Dig" from his last album

"Today's Lesson". Probably my favourite song from that album.

Nick Cave has been brilliant from the days of Boys Next Door, through the glorious Birthday Party and into his magnificent solo career, not forgetting Grinderman of course. What a songwriter. What a frontman. What a band the Bad Seeds have been and are now.

Didn't like his novel that much like.
