I'm old enough to remember (just) the arse end of Tom Baker's reign, and Peter Davison was my favourite but I think Tennant's turned out to be a superb Doctor.

Honourable mention also to Patrick Troughton who had probably the hardest job, because if people didn't accept him the show would have been confined to history. He pulled it off quite superbly from the little I've seen of his episodes.

As a side note I thought Catherine Tate became an outstanding companion, perhaps in spite of RTD rather than because of him. But she gave 100% in all the episodes, I liked her.

I despise Catherine Tate, shite comedienne, shite actress. Did you see her on the Dr Who Themed "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" the other week? Annoying doesn't even begin to describe her appearance in it. I'd like to dance on her stupid ginger face. For a long time.

Watch the first two minutes of this for evidence. That laugh is so fake.

Indeed, but Cribbins is wonderful.

And while we're at it, the recent Doctor Who stories have been utterly woeful. They just make stuff up and always have this random plot device that they pluck out of their arse, like the president's glove being able to genetically alter every single person on Earth's DNA? What the fuck! That's just lazy script writing.

Yep, couldnt agree more. The last episodes and most of he last series were utter shite.

Eccleston for me.

He had a really hard job being the first since it was dropped from the schedules and the lad did very well.

He had a pleasing air of menace/madness about him

I couldn't stand his elastic face. I'm overjoyed Davies regenerated Doctor who as I loved the comeback. But he was one of the worse Doctors, as Tennat showed. He went on a series too far too though. Bring on Moffat and the new Doctor, I only hope the BBC producers have th balls to let Moffat go free. Maybe then we could get the sceince fiction episodes Doctor Who deserves.

Doctor Who sucks balls. Not the nice firm clean shaven balls of a Brazzers porn star either, but the dirty sweaty matted pubic hair balls of a near dead tramp.

The best Doctor Who was clearly Tom Baker, but it's like saying you prefer Celine Dion to Mariah Carey.

Oh Noos

Mmm yes DW

Mav, what's your opinion of the end of Tennant?

Sorry to see him go. Been an ace doctor but I'm sorry the Xmas specials* were a load of self indulgent, fan obssessed, 'greatest hits', load of bollocks I have ever had the misfortune to watch (And I was still a fan during the 80's!!!)

I accept that Tennant had earned his lap of honour which he inevitably got at christmas but think he would have been better served by what Nu Who has done largely very effectively for the past four years which is tell a decent story.

All my 'not we' friends wanted me to explain it for them. I think that speaks volumes!!!!

*In fact the only decent special of the gap year was Waters of Mars

I thought Tennant was actually good as The Doctor. He's a good and charismatic actor. However, he was held back by some utterly rubbish scripts. It really fucks me off that they're casting to bring in the female viewers though. The Doctor is supposed to be an eccentric middled aged or old man.

Don't agree with you re scripts. Over 60 episodes that Davies helmed not everyone will suit everyone but on the whole I think the majority were above average with a couple of excellent ones each year

Female viewers assist to make the programme more main stream (which it needs to be) so I have no issues with "Dishy" Doctors. I doubt that's an adjective you could apply to Matt Smith. There has to be balance of course - so a big welcome to Karen Gillan!!

And who says he is supposed to be a middle aged man. Doc 5 was 29 when he was cast. Younger than DT.

Technically for me it was the last half of Pertwee era and first half of Tom Baker era, so I voted Baker.

I've mostly enjoyed the comeback series, but have grown to dislike the manic running about that Tennant always seems to do and the over loud bombastic incidental music.

I would prefer a more "darker" style (like X-Files), but seeing as it is marketed mostly as kids/family entertainment this is not going to happen.

Moffat won't forget he has to accommodate the kids as he appreciates it is the only drama aimed at three generations (watch with kids or your parents) but think you will see less froth than with Davies

I post on a Who forum which is full of internet warriors. Makes the FF look like a nursery school - for sissies!!

Reading the posts on there you wonder if any of them actually like Dr Who

Where do I have my best forum 'chat' about my favourite programme - here!!

Gotta love the GF

I just don't see it. Like you said, the Christmas Specials were really self indulgent (although I agree about Waters Of Mars. That was one of the better ones). Tennant's reign as The Doctor is just full of really shit stories and they don't have the lack of resources to fall back on. Episodes like The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, Human Nature/Family Of Blood, Blink,

and Silence In The Library were all excellent, but some of the other stories like School Reunion, Love and Monsters, The Runaway Bride, The Lazarus Experiment, the whole story arc with The Master in series 3, Partners In Crime, The Sontaran Stratagem, The Doctor's Daughter, The Unicorn and the Wasp, to my mind, they were all basically filler.
