Cahill was in front of Crouch when he ran in and met the ball. I'd like to point out that sometimes it is possible for the opposition to score from good play rather than from any obvious mistake on our part.

 

Arguably Crouch might have been a bit more on his toes and had better anticipation of where the ball was going to come down, but that would be a bit harsh IMO.

 

Cahill nipped in and got a good header on the run. As has been pointed out, this seems to be the slight downside of zonal marking, but our defensive record this season would indicate that we have improved a lot, so there's not a lot of room for criticism. It's also worth noting that if you employ a man to man defence the opposition wins their share of headers too. On the evidence of this season, they win less headers against our zonal defence.

If Carra had stepped back he would have made it too. He just missed it by an inch.

 

And as pointed out, sometimes it is good play that make goals, not mistakes.

 

I dont care about the goal against, we playd a hell of a game and beat them 6-2. Crouch playd one of his best games and he has become better and better in the last games.

Thats true. Whenever we let one in from a set piece we get the zonal marking debate. We let in less than the teams who use man for man though.

 

There is a lesson to be learned from Cahill's goal though. Next time we go down to ten, we need to have someone on the post.

Carra was the one who missed the header, but I wouldn't criticise him for it. It was just one of those perfectly placed crosses that went inches over Carra's head and between the two defending players. It would have caused us trouble whether Cahill had been there or not.

I think that if you are down to ten men then the first thing that goes is the man on the post. Putting someone on the post only leaves you further depleted on heading the ball out. Bad call in my opinion.

Crouch wasnt tight enough to cover Carra's back, might have ben caught blindside by that little horrible cunt.

 

Either way he should have attacked the ball with a bit more aggression.
