Never heard of it,to be honest.

 

I think some actors get lucky with scripts and get the chance to star alongside some really great actors.

The three films that stand out for me with Law in are;the road to perdition,Hanks and Newman were in that,one of the Ripley films,I rate Matt Damon and The Enemy at the Gates,not sure who was also in that to be honest. Then he was the star of an abysmal remake of Alfie.

I just don't rate Law myself and find Gosling gets parts in good films alongside good actors too,imo.

I don't think Law and gosling have any comparison to each other. If you watched the films Josef talks about earlier in the thread you would see how good an actor he is in smaller movies where he is the star.

 

That's not say he is overshadowed in bigger movies like Drive and Crazy, stupid love where I think he outshines the other actors anyway. I just can't imagine you've seen many of his films if you're comparing him to Jude Law.

 

You really should watch Half Nelson btw, good film for which he received an academy award nomination for best actor.

I saw Gosling in Drive,which was an excellent film but he mumbled his way through that and it was more style over substance.

 

I saw him in The Ides of March too where he just smiled and again mumbled through a few lines without changing his expression.

 

He looks like he should be in Rom Coms to me.

I saw fracture a while ago and quite enjoyed it. Goslings performance was hardly earth shattering though.

If you are looking for earth shattering performances in every film you watch then this is probably a pointless discussion.

 

My point was you need to watch more than a couple of his films before you do him the injustice of comparing him to Jude Law, so i listed other films i have seen with him in it.

I'm just trying to say that I think Gosling is a very ordinary actor and hardly worthy of a best young actor label IMHO.
