Still not bought one as I'm lazy and don't particularly watch TV, but I have a question...

If I'm buying a TV for 500/1000 why the fuck do I then need to buy a sound bar and 'sound system'?

Surely if I'm paying the best part of a grand for some glass, wires and plastic the sound should be good enough, right?

My tv’s speaker is the screen. Spooky bastard it is.

I watch everything with headphones on, it's much better for the dialogue and cheaper. Unless you are into family viewing , or you must have the telly on all day in the background, two people can easily use a splitter and two sets of cordless or wired headphones, which probably offers better sound pound for pound.

On the other hand, I'm weird. Only watch what I first download.

Then, and ignore the naivety, why are they so expensive?

Is it just captive market stuff considering they’re knocked up for about £50 in Asia and shipped over here.

They're basically good quality speakers that used to be in the TV. So they've separated them and you have to pay extra now.

I bought an AV receiver and surround system about 8 years ago as I have 6 things that need a HDMI connection.

Maybe one for the 'small things' thread, but annoying that LG tv's have done away with a headphone socket completely.

The Samsung I have is the same. It does have Bluetooth so I tried setting it up with my ear buds but there was issues with lip sync.

I only tried it because I'm mutton and  was having trouble with dialogue through the soundbar, but I replaced that last month for one with a processor that amplifies dialogue separately and it's better. Much better.

I got a LG Smart TV also, about £350 worth. It's fine for somebody like me who isn't a tech nut but just wants a decent picture.

I got a BT package with excellent WiFi and Netflix and Now TV rolled in. £61 pm.

I get my non-terrestrial sport via a firestick

Another LG vote here. Had mine since 2010 with no problems whatsover.

Stand by for a tv explosion in my house now!

Really? How do they expect people to connect them then? How bizarre. Do they save much by not having a socket?

I did the same, well it was £329, add me to the LG crew.

You get really decent TVs these days for a fairly modest outlay.
