When I heard the hoohar over Lallana I assumed he was 20-21, when I found out he was 25 it raised eyebrows I must admit. You do have to be carful of these one season wonders as others have said. I do feel these clubs do over egg the pudding somewhat with a view to selling these players on down the line, I do honestly suspect this is Everton's M.O especially.

I don't think he's a one season wonder, he was pretty consistent last year whilst captaining a team in his first season in the PL. He was also in the team of the years in the two years prior in both Championship and league one.

Not saying he represents good value or that we should sign him but I think he's a very good player who will carry on doing well wherever he goes.

He's fucking brilliant Lallana. Him, Shaw and barkley are the 3 players we should be moving heaven and earth to sign.

Lallana can play anywhere across the pitch, he's direct, skillful, great engine and good in the tackle too.

I'd happily see us go to £25m for any or even all of those 3 if necessary.

We're about to get £92m just for our TV money. Add that to a minimum of £25-30m for Champions League money, plus whatever we can get in from sales - surely at least another £15-20m, and we're well fixed financially. This is the calibre of player we need to going for now.

Konoplyanka impressed me against spurs, he seemed like the kind of player that could fit in with how we play.

It looks now that he is a backup option at best as we know his release fee and presumably we agreed terms with him in Jan, if he was still a top target we would get it done now.

edit, thought this was summer transfer thread.

Lallana is a good player who can fill a lot of positions and will be good for the squad.

I understand why people ate frustrated as we have been hearing how we need to get cl to attract players while lallana is one we could attract without it, Im confident we will get a couple of top players along with lallana.

Shaw and Barkley have completely different profiles. They are late teen types years away from their peak. Lallana's peak years are relatively imminent. That should have a significant bearing on the amount we are prepared to buy a player for.

Barkley is nearly 21 so has his best years ahead of him and huge potential. We've already seen the premiums you pay for that with British players - Henderson for example.

But you also pay big money for proven players already in their prime, and I'd put Lallana in that bracket. He's played brilliantly at every level he's had the opportunity to, from Championship up to international. I see no reason why he wouldn't do the same in Champion's league.
