Report: Contract extension unlikely for Keita

Naby Keita is set to to depart Liverpool on a free transfer according to a new report.

The Guinea international splits opinion like no other player in the current Liverpool squad.

There are some among the fanbase who believe when fit, he adds a extra element of energy to the Liverpool midfield.

But on the other side of the coin, there are many who feel that he has flattered to deceive on too many occasions to count when he takes to the field, and has the the frustrating  knack of picking up injuries and staying on the sidelines for extended periods.

In truth, taking everything into account, the 27 year-old could comfortably be called the most disappointing signing of the Jurgen Klopp tenure.

The disappointment extends to the fact that Liverpool look almost certain to not recoup any of the £50 million they outlaid for him in August of 2017.

Keita stayed with his club RB Leipzig for another season before coming to the Premier League and in his five seasons to date has made 127 appearances and scored 11 goals.

He has roughly missed the same amount of games at his time with the club with injury and illness which has been highlighted further in this campaign where he has made just 11 appearances.

With Klopp looking to find a solution to his midfield quandary, he has turned to the fit-again Keita in the new year and he has made four consecutive starts.

However according to Sky Germany (per Metro), that does not seem enough to have earned Keita a new deal with the publication saying many clubs are interested in the free agent including in Germany.

When he does depart Liverpool, he can certainly be put in the category as a unfulfilled talent.

Hallefuckinlujah  and I hope he slams the door on the way out.

Think it was him bossing midfield, slamming into tackles and a ferocious shot that won me over. Beast of a player( see 5 minute youtube video)

Another free transfer out of the club after a big outlay. Is there some kind of sense in letting players go for nothing? Can,Wijnaldum and now Keita could all have recouped some transfer money over the seasons.

The nail should have been put in this lads coffin at the end of his 2nd season, 3rd at the latest. The idea we've spent 5 years trying to find a footballer is preposterous. It was a massive fuck up to allow him to see out 5 years. @VladimirIlyich mentions Gini, but at least there we got 5 good years for the money paid. This lad has contributed nothing but a few fleeting moments in 5 years and we should have cut our losses 2 years in. But of course the idea of jibbing him for 20m after 2 years wouldn't have represented value for Boston.

Couldn’t agree with you more. He has been a massive disappointment.

He is not fit often enough.

He is deeply mediocre.

There is much much more evidence for him being bin bagged than there is for keeping him.

It is well past time he went.

Fact he is actually our only prime age midfielder reflects on just what a clusterfuck our midfield is. Him going is hopefully just a smal part of a much needed and overdue rebuild of it.

When we got him I thought we were getting a big, strong and powerful box to box midfielder, good riddance to the small, weak challenge-bottling sicknote. Even without injuries he would not have been good enough.

If we gave him a new contract then fuck sports washing or financial doping, rape apologists or anything else, that would be the straw that broke the camels back for my love affair with modern football. I’d take up curling.

We had a great run in terms of successful signings during the best of Klopp's years so far. Typical that it was the one who seemed a dead cert to succeed who didn't work out.

Also, I think that bizarre situation of buying a player a year in advance is a shitshow for all concerned and didn't help. There's a reason why clubs don't generally do it.

The fact that he is somehow in our top midfield three on merit at the moment points to how big a job Jurgen has in summer.

To be fair, it's a job of his own making.

If he travels with the same accuracy as he shoots he'll probably aim for Germany and end up in Finalnd.

His shooting is almost as good as your spelling...

What are the odds he doesn't experience a single injury problem between now and the end of the season? Truly an abomination of a signing and the very definition of everything that's wrong with modern football.

A Naby Keita in other words.

It's certainly been exceedingly funny that Thiago has turned into Robocop, to coincide with us not having anyone to play with him.
