That was the Week that Was (Mar 24-28 2025)

    wtwheader.jpg

Monday Mar 24:

Week off from the diary last week, so just recapping anything interesting that happened before cracking on with this week. Yeah, I got nothing. Boring week, fuck all happening other than internationals, and not much of interest happened in those. We did get Alisson sent back with a concussion, and we got Gravenberch back early too. He was sent back the day he got there, as Big Red Ron took one look at the poor broken bastard and said “you need a rest kid, fuck off home and take it easy”. Shame certain other Dutch managers can’t see that….

There was an injury scare with Konate too, but it turns out he was just subbed early for being shite. Gave away a pen, had a bit of a stinker, subbed at half time. Ramadan has took one hell of a toll on him.

What else happened? I saw there were more problems with the Blues getting to their new stadium. Chaos at Sandhills, and then they’re basically having to walk single file over a bridge to get the stadium, which causes even more delays. And these two test events have been with vastly reduced crowds. When they’ve got a full house there for league games it’s gonna be absolute fucking chaos. Still, they “built this city”, remember. So who are they gonna blame for this?

Onto today, and I hate this, it’s really irked me. Dom got into a bit of handbags with a Real Madrid player during Hungary’s 6-0 aggregate spanking by Turkey. The lad is only 20 and obviously isn’t a regular at Madrid yet, but he’s done pretty well for them and his team just twatted Hungary, with him getting a goal after Dom lost the ball. The lad shushed him after an argument and there was a photo of it that Dom saw fit to reply to.

The reply simply said “1088”, which it turned out is the number of minutes the lad has played for Madrid this season. The lad then replied with a screenshot of the score and said “this guy is a joke. Isn’t six goals enough to shut you up?”

Not gonna lie, I’d be up for selling Szoboszlai here and now for this as he’s embarrassed us all and forced me to side with a Real Madrid player, which never sits well because fuck Real Madrid. I don’t know what the worst part of this is, as there are a lot of factors in play here. Firstly, if he had beef with the lad then fucking smash into him during the game. There’s your opportunity to do something, so fucking do it. He’s got previous for this though. He never went near Tarkowski the other week despite running his mouth at him in the tunnel after last season’s loss there. He’s soft; I'll spell it. S O F - capital T. Soft.

Secondly, you lost the game, Dom. So it’s probably not wise to talk smack unless you’ve got a real zinger up your sleeve. This ain’t that. “1088”. Jesus Christ. He’s no Neal Maupay is he? It’s the worst comeback I’ve seen since Mike Tyson ‘fought’ Jake Paul.

Thirdly, 1088 minutes for Real Madrid is not too fucking shabby for a 20 year old. If Dom thinks that’s an insult, what the fuck is poor Harvey thinking when he’s got less minutes than that for us? Fourthly, in those 1088 minutes he’s got just as many assists as Dom has. This ain’t the sick burn you think it is mate.

Especially as, lastly, Dom must have taken the trouble to google how many minutes the lad had played, which frankly is just waaaaay too much effort for such a God awful comeback. I’m dying of cringe even thinking about this. So fucking lame. He’s let himself down. He’s let his family down. He’s let his club down. He’s let the fans down. He should just issue a grovelling apology to everybody for having such a fucking woeful social media game. And delete that fucking account before you embarrass yourself and us again.

I think this kind of sums him up though. Brownie’s been saying this on the pod all season, he’s just a pussy. If he’s got beef with that lad, then be a man and fucking boot him when he's right there in front of you. And if you’re going down the instagram route then at least be fucking funny. This is shit and I’m irrationally angry and disgusted by it. It’s probably an age thing as I’m finding it really hard to relate to the modern day footballer. If I was Slot I’d call him into the office and absolutely tear a fucking strip off him for this. Stevie will be turning in his grave at this. Keita and now Szoboszlai tarnishing his number eight shirt. It should have been retired with him. Imagine Gerrard carrying on like this back in the day.

I either completely forgot or never knew that Trent only signed a 4 year deal.  If that’s the case it suggests to me he didn’t want his final year being an international tournament year.  It gives the clubs a bit more clout with the threat of putting them in the bench.  He’s 100% orchestrated the whole thing from a longer time ago than people think.  I agree on the transfer fee thing.  I’d go further and say both the club and the player know what they agreed to and if the contract starts running down then that’s just part and parcel of it.  He doesn’t owe us anything.  I’d prefer the club to be stronger though and stop letting players get all their own way right up until they leave.

I mentioned it in the transfer thread a week or so ago that we could start looking like a sinking ship very quickly and we might already be passed the point of no return because of how inactive we are in the transfer market year after year.  It’s all well and good being more clever in the transfer market and and pulling off a season like we have this year with basically no signings but it sends a bad message out to the players.  Spending loads of money doesn’t guarantee you anything as we’ve seen with various clubs but spending fuck all and flogging what good players you have to death always ends the same way.  We’ve seen it before.  All your good players start to leave and you struggle to attract new ones.  At that point we might start panic spending Caicedo style and that will make the situation even worse.

I propose a two-pronged solution to the Dom problem:

1. Turn his social media account over to the denizens of TLW. In short order we’d have that little Madrid cunt’s number and he’ll be afraid to say anything else to anyone.

2. If Trent is leaving have Dom practice kicking opponents on Trent in training.

Your piece on Trent is perfect Dave, same with Harvey. A lot of home truths that the present powers in the club don‘t seem to care about. Send Trent a copy please.

Great report Dave.agree with the piece about Dom,just embarrassing. I sussed him a while ago, if the going gets a bit physical.and tasty, he doesn't want to know, shits out of tackles and hides.

Too harsh on Dom.

This thing with him and Gular has only just began, let it play out over the next few years and “1088” might be an inspired beginning.

Totally spot on on Harvey and Dom.

Sick is the right word and it really makes me feel uncomfortable because it’s all on the manager.

Why has he been doing this, and what does it tell about him really ?

Harvey’s treatment does not make sense at all and it does not look good on Slot.

Brilliant write up Dave agree 100% with the Trent and Konate stuff and how you won't find a bigger set of cunts in world football than Madrid,  only the cheats run them close imo .

I think the coward thing is a bit harsh on Dom. In the modern day we have moved away from cloggers and reducers, and if you do any of this you will be looking at a minimum 3 game ban. A lot of the new coaches suggest making a tackle means there has been a previous error, so seen as a bad thing. Some of our most combative / snide players seem to be the ones getting most of the injuries so maybe discretion is the better part of valour.

Brilliant write up Dave.

Completely agree with you on both Dom and Trent.

As soon as Trent started talking about winning the Balon D'or I realised he'd jumped the shark.

Firstly he's never going to win it playing in his position, secondly he's even less likely to win it at Madrid as if they have an incredible season it will go to Mbappe, Vinicius Jr or maybe his boyfriend.

Thirdly the Balon D'or winner is often tied to International football and he has barely done anything at that level. Whilst that may change under Tuchel, I still can't ever see him being first choice for England.

Great balanced view on the current circumstances the shame of it we are 3 or 4 wins away from number 20. Its so in the bag that all this rumour shit (not Trent thats nailed on) that we have this crap is such a distraction.

Spot on re Trent and Madrid, those entitled cunts literally love no-one so him dick swinging will last until he stinks the place out and super jude distances himself....

He will be more like Woodgate at Madrid than McManaman.

Ballon d'or my sweaty arse.

Like many don't wish him ill just don't care Keegan to Hamburg set that tone for me. But if he comes to us with them as you say don't expect an ovation from us either. We move on .

Lastly on Brazil, just watched that Netflix series Captains re the 2022 WC, decent behind the scenes, but it's like that team is have a cunt-off

So seeing you mention it made me laugh out loud.

Pele, Socrates, Eden, Zico et Al turning in their proverbial graves...

Need Ali to retire, far too lovely for them twats.

Stringvest hated him though, so he'll level any accusation at him, warranted or not!

I can't remember Dave, it's at least 5 years since he tackled anyone.

Dom's let himself down badly here though, I think we can all agree on that one.

That’s not a popular view right now because he fucked up badly but he was a great player and a great captain, and a real leader on the pitch.

I still maintain Trent should have just signed a new contract a couple of years ago and inserted a release clause if he fancied a move to Real Madrid. Even if it was £50m or something. It wouldn't be as tough to swallow as running your contract down in order to move there, and, to your point, it would also show whether Real really wanted him.

Totally agree in theory. Not sure it works in reality though, as 1) LFC may not want to agree to it, and 2) if they did and it ever got out that he had that clause (Marca would no doubt report it) then life would get quite uncomfortable for him.

The other reason he wouldn't do it is because Madrid wouldn't pay £50m for him. The only reason they want him is because he's free.

And if/when he leaves on a free, he'll point to the offer Madrid made in January. It's all a bit messy.

exactly - he could have used it to his advantage. It would show if he was really wanted or not.

agree with point 1, but would LFC rather take £50m than nothing? Potentially not to be fair as we get that for making CL.

and point 2.. can life really be any more uncomfortable than it is now?

as the other poster says, it’s all just very messy and regrettable.

Yeah, and loads of us said at the time it was purely designed so Trent / Madrid could say "you could have had a fee but turned it down". That 'bid' was never going to be accepted and he was never going to walk away from a title to go there halfway through the season.
