Borini would get in any team says Gus Poyet

On loan Italian striker Fabio Borini has been given a ringing endorsement by Sunderland boss Gus Poyet who claims that "any manager would like to have him in his team".

Borini joined the Black Cats on a season long loan after struggling in his first season at Anfield following a £10m move from Roma in the summer of 2012, but he has proved to be a real hit at the Stadium of Light, helping the Mackems reach the Capital One Cup Final as well as scoring in both North East derby games against arch rivals Newcastle United.

Poyet is delighted with the impact the young frontman has made and was effusive in his praise in an interview with the Shields Gazette. “What a good character Fabio is." said the Uruguayan. “He’s a character that any manager would like to have in his team. At the beginning, I remember when I played him and then I couldn’t play him. I didn’t have words to explain why he wasn’t playing. But he’s a very special character that would be in any XI in any team.”

Borini was substituted after just 12 minutes of Sunderland's home defeat to Hull City at the weekend as the early dismissal of Wes Brown forced Poyet to sacrifice the Italian in a tactical reshuffle. That prevented Borini from building on his outstanding display in Sunderland's 3-0 win over Newcastle the previous weekend, a performance that had Poyet purring. “Mama-mia, he had an unbelievable game the other day in the derby.”

“He fights to take penalties and the runs he was making on (Mathieu) Debuchy were amazing. He was really a top performer and he’s always ready to play, ready to train. If he’s got some pain, he doesn’t care, he just wants to play and score goals.”

What do you think? Does Borini still have a future at Anfield or should the Reds be looking to cash in on him this summer whilst his stock is high?

That worries me though, it was more about how he's a great character than a great player, Chelsea 6 Sunderland 0, Borini misses several chances and Sunderland pay the price, Poyet; 'yes, but he was fucking hilarious in the dressing room afterwards, he kicked my wife in the cunt and said it was a sign of respect in Italy'.

He's too good to be coming on for ten minutes here and there, but not yet good enough for a starting place in the 11 so it's a difficult one. I think if Sunderland stay up Poyet will do a good job so I wouldn't be against sending him their for another season.

EDIT - Wont they also get Europa league whether they win or lose the League Cup?

If they offered us our money back (£9m with the loan fee they've already paid) I'd sell him, but if they think they can get him on the cheap I'd keep him.  We need to be better with our player sales and stand firm with our prices.

Undecided, i think he needs to improve many aspects of his game but he's only 22. I just have this weird feeling about him, like he's going to end up being a beast later on in his career like Di Natale is for Udinese.

He has the work ethic and the discipline to be a success, but probably needs another year out on loan playing regularly, before anyone can give a conclusive answer one way or the other.

Keep keep keep keep. He could be really valuable to have in our squad next season what with European football back on the menu. Think he can do a great job as a sub/occasional starter.

If we get in the CL next season we're going to need a much bigger squad and I'd rather bring Borini back than go out and buy another striker.  Sell Aspas, and let Borini take his place on the bench.  If someone were to come in and offer us more than what we paid for him then I'd probably take that though.

If we bring him back then a striker isn't essential and we can spend more money elsewhere (assuming Luis stays) . Give him the chance to oust Sturridge or Suarez and just put it too him that its up to him if he thinks he can hack it.

He has definitely been a lot better for them than he ever was for us but he is still only young.

The way we play at our best with the high intensity pressing he would be a very useful player. Next season we'll hopefully play a lot more often than this season and the risk for injuries and the required number of players will be higher. A player with so much talent and confidence is good for any squad. I'd give him next season to prove himself. If he doesn't come off well he'll be an attractive target for many clubs anyway.

I'd have him in the squad for next season unless we get a good offer for him (around what we paid for him.) I'd show Aspas the door because, really, what's the point?

Yes I've become a big fan of him, his been great for Sunderland and he put in a class performance in the derby. His got the right head and attitude to succeed and has the footballing talent. You don't do well with 2 strikers so Borini would be an excellent 3rd striker and as his versatile can slot in any wide forward positions.

He needs to be playing every week and with Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling all in the form they're in, I'd loan him out to get at least a year playing regularly in the PL.

That's what we did !!

Assume you mean another season on loan.

Then his contract runs down and he goes for peanuts

We either decide to take him back and use him or sell on in the summer

I would have him back and ditch Aspas personally but a lot depends on where we finish and whether we have another soap opera over Suarez's future.
