San Jose joins Athletic Bilbao

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I think the Reserve League is an absolute joke.

Don't get me wrong it is and you'll be hard pressed to find someone who whinges about it more than me. But, even though it's not a test of someones ultimate quality, it does tell you a lot about whether someone can adapt to the intensity of the English game and having watched all those 3 it was pretty obvious that San Jose was the least likely. Again says nothing about his ultimate quality or how he'd do in a different league, just how well he could face up to the kind of challenges he'd face in England.

It doesn't say.

That's what the agreed fee was in his loan deal to make it permanent, apparently.

I assumed they paid that.

A clause in San Jose's loan deal allows Athletic to sign him for €3m from Liverpool, who he joined in 2007 for a fee of around €300,000. The Pamplona-born defender never broke into the Reds' first team, and it is now likely that Athletic will take up their option to re-sign the centre back in the summer.

Gotta love the clout of the Premier League. Pique, Fabregas and San Jose signed for peanuts and sold back to their original clubs for a profit.

In Fabregas' case, it's going to be a huge one.

That clout is starting to wane - top notch foreign players are leaving these shores at a rate of knots
