Stouff, this isn't necessarily a book about peoples experiences, more of a political book, about the reasons/motivations for the war etc, but is essentially about the war and everybody who took part in it. I read it some years ago, so I'm a bit vague on the title, but its something like "A bright shining lie" or thereabouts and its a cracking read, you would very much enjoy it.

I've read a few books by Tim O'Brien Stouff, about his tour in the 'Nam. Not the usual gung-ho shite you get from ex-marines, as he was a conscientious objector who nearly went AWOL to Canada before having to go to Vietnam. But I really like these 3 books of his, all novels, but all about his first hand experiences:

Amazon.co.uk: If I Die in a Combat Zone (Harper Perennial Modern Classics): Tim O'Brien: Books

Amazon.co.uk: The Things They Carried (Flamingo): Tim O'Brien: Books

Going After Cacciato (Flamingo): Tim O'Brien: Amazon.co.uk: Books

And while we're here, I think the ultimate Vietnam based piece of work is this Oscar nominated documentary from the 70's:

Hearts And Minds [1975]: Peter Davis: Amazon.co.uk: DVD
