The only way to become a great guitarist is to travel to the crossroads. At midnight a man will come and take your guitar a tune it for you.

You'll be a great guitarist*

If you kidnapped, murdered and removed the brain of a guitarist and transplanted it into your own head would you instantly be brilliant at playing the guitar?

If it worked then no your body would be that guitarists new body and you would be whatever the hell they decided to do with your brain.

I'm self taught and I'm amazing.

Who am I kidding I'm shite, I can do all the fret board stuff but I have no clue with strumming patterns I just don't have an ear/rhythm for it.

It's not in the brain, it's all in the fingers.

Some good recommendations in here folks, thanks.

I had a cheap electric guitar when I was 16 but gave up on it pretty quickly but 12 years later I've decided to learn properly. Back in May I took some experience guitar-playing friends of mine to a superb local shop and bought myself a second hand Fender F220 SB, which created a really good first impression and having now had it for a few months am comfortable and happy with. I was amazed how long I spent in the shop trying all the different guitars, I actually ended up going for the second one I picked up, which is this:

I've decided to use the Justin Sandercoe website to get me started and I'm progressing nicely. I've learnt the basic CAGED chords along with some minor and 7th chords and I'm trying to practice as much as possible on chord changes; I'm probably doing 3 x 15 minute practices a week with a loner 1/2 hour session every other weekend, I probably need to do a bit more to be honest. I bought Justin's Beginner's Songbook which has some excellent, simple songs I can play, although admittedly it has some garbage in it too, but he is trying to cater for everyone.

So thanks to Jenings for the Justin recommendation. I'm really enjoying learning, I'm just gutted I waited so long to do it!

Another reason why you are cool karl.

I have decided I am goinf to start learning some covers. I have recorded a few but never played more than 3 in maybe 8 years. Tebd to write my own stuff.

Got a video tutorial for the Artic Monkey's 'Do I Wanna Know' which is a boss riff and could be done at parties.

This thread does have some boss recommendations.

My ten year old daughter has been saving through the summer, doing little jobs etc. around the house because she wanted to buy a guitar. Just got her a Yamaha F720S. It's an acoustic guitar, concert size (perfect for a youngster), still with a solid top, and it stays in tune and the projection is not bad. It is set up quite well so it's a good instrument to learn on.

I'm trying to be a good dad! Yes, that extends to now being able to play my daughter's favourite Taylor Swift song. There are only four basic chords in it. She's learning the chords and we are having fun.

I'm not a good guitarist by any stretch of the imagination, but I have fun with it, and this is a lovely thing to do with my daughter. I've had a fair few guitars over the years but really like the Taylor 814ce I play now.

Very nice choice there Rev, had a go of one of these earlier on in the year.
