There's quite a few Pogues covers that when you try to find out who did the original, instead of it being The Dubliners/Luke Kelly as you half expected, it just says "traditional" and there appears to be no definitive answer.

Strange that, you'd think it wouldn't be that hard to find out where these songs came from.
