Kenny got 7 more points this season then Hodgson did in hit short spell in charge. But Hodgson did manage the same amount of wins as Kenny ( 6 ) in his 6 month spell.

Hodgson was a cancer and should never have been given the job. Kenny deserved the job after doing so well in the second half of the season. Now he has the job, he has to take responsibility for his share of things that have gone wrong. Signings and their performances, obviously, are his domains. Some are throwing up a Carling Cup, as if it's some amazing achievement, as proof of our greatness. Pull the other one.

If Kenny is binned....he'll only have himself to blame. Transfers, team selection, substitutions, tactics (and off-field performance) have all been below par, and I guess he's accountable for most. An improvement in our general play for large parts of the season won't be enough to save him I'm afraid.

Torn on the subject myself, would desperately want him to succeed, but I think that's unlikely given what we've watched this season. Don't think we can expect to get the best managers around anyway (bar Rafa perhaps?), so it's possible we will be better off keeping Kenny... He'll have to learn from his mistakes though, and be ruthless and cut our losses with Downing, Henderson (as well as Kuyt and Carra). As I don't think much of this will happen, I'm inclined to let him go and get a proper clearout...

Aarrggh, going to be a long summer, watching all the other teams start strengthening while we dwell on our future - once again.

Crikey.

Lose best player for 9 games - not relevant.

K.

Boss red.

How did we perform after he returned? He came back in February, did we stiporm the league and challenge for a top four berth as a result? Nah, we dropped further away. That's not Suarez's fault, but it hardly speaks of a situation wherein his ban crippled our season.

Very good post.

So is this "context" a rational reason to keep Kenny?

Or are we to have faith that this unfortunate context won't repeat itself next season?

I have faith that it won't. And I love Kenny.

So am I sentimental or rational? Or a bit of both?

Actually, I'm probably just very confused tbh.

A sane post amid a heap of largely simple-minded dross. I think we all have a strong sense of loyalty to Kenny for sentimental reasons (well, the vast majority on here do) and I think that's why a lot of people are feeling conflicted. As you say, the key question is "are we to have faith that this unfortunate context won't repeat itself next season?" But I think there are rational reasons to believe that it won't, as well as reasons of faith. We will never hit the post as many times again. We will never miss as many penalties. We will probably never have as many goalkeepers play so well against us. We will also have new signings and more continuity.

Now, this doesn't necessarily mean that we will do better, because we have to once again conextualise; our better-positioned rivals will also strengthen, we might have more injuries to key players, some players might leave, etc. But it's a good enough reason to give the manager another crack at it next season, unless a demonstrably better candidate can be found. In my opinion, of course.

His ban left the team in a bit of a rut. No holding midfielder, club captain struggling for fitness, new signings struggling to adapt, a team in its infancy struggling to find any sort of identity. All the more difficult when you haven't got a midfielder who can retain possession, read the game and dictate play. All the more difficult when you lose your star forward for 9 games and his return was never going to galvanise us the way his debut did against Stoke the year before.

And indeed, I thought it a very good one.

Be more specific.

I dont need to and I cant be arsed. The mere fact that you didn't disagree shows that you agree, in part at least.

You (and others) get angry at the people on here who don't enter debates and make "snide comments" but thats what people have resorted to after banging their head against the wall.

People were trying to debate Kennys decisions and our team a long time ago but its impossible on here. Everybody is overly defensive. Its also frustrating to be told the grass is luminous green when its actually not even grass, just a big shit stain.

Im sick of cunts like code posting a load of numbers about how many times we've been offside or had fucking throwings as some sort of substantial positive analysis on our season. I, and many, don't need a number. My eyes allow me to see how rubbish this team is and how much it needs improving.

By nearly all measures, Kenny failed this season. Maybe we should give him another crack at it. But we shouldn't ignore our problems.

Oh, that's great.

I cant be arsed agreeing with you.

You just keep looking for any stick you can beat the manager with.

A bit like what people did with Rafa, funnily enough.

Maybe you should take a read through my posts to see if I beat Rafa "with any old stick".

Here's your answer. His stance was heartwarmingly kenny and I loved him for standing up for what we all felt was right. However, he was naive in his execution and along with others at the club (Comolli ayre etc) he made mistakes throughout the whole affair. He admits as much himself so I don't know what type of argument you're trying to pick.

I couldn't be arsed because I'm typing on a smartphone.

The thing that worries me about Kenny is Downing and the other failures.

Probably our worst signing ever given the amount of money spent on him and what he's returned.

He really needs to be fucked off, but can't see Kenny doing this.

Don't think Adam is good enough either, not even as a squad player. What happened to the set piece specialist? Can't even take a fucking penalty.

Henderson shouldn't be anywhere near the first team either.

So if Kenny stays, so does these 2nd rate players, who at the end of the day simply aren't good enough.

So are things going to get better next season? Are these players going to transform into world beaters? Don't think so.

Only Carroll has showed any remarkable improvements.

Before anyone says anything, I'm still undecided if Kenny should stay or go.
