  1. 1. Is Roy Hodgson Good Enough to Manage Liverpool Football Club?

Hope this doesn't sound snide, because I don't mean it, but do you not think the bits in bold contradict each other slightly?

I don't. There is a gap of five places between challenging for the title and what we did. Anywhere over halfway up that gap was making the best of the resources available to him. I would expect any manager we appoint to be looking for at least fourth place with the squad we had last year. What we should be looking at with the squad we will have next year is still undetermined, but the signs are not good.

Yeah Stevie he's great, he got us to 12 this season and the final of the Europa League, don't bother leaving to go to Madrid to play in the Champions league, with the possibility of winning the league, stay and can waste the last years of your career keeping the ship steady!

Its about ambition and Hodgsons appointment shows none.

That side last year, should still have comfortably finished in the top four, and should have made a better fist of the whole campaign!

Last season was deemed not good enough by a lot of Liverpool fans, and now with the same team in mind, it is suddenly no more than we can expect!

IF we have the same team then we should expect top four.

That's a forty foot high, glowing neon IF.

Sure you can't see it?

I think it is going to be hard to predict the capability/success of any of the managerial front runners.

This appointment wouldn't thrill me or intrigue me - so I guess I will be quick to judge him on his style of football and the personel he recruits.

That is why I said 'same team in mind', it certainly isn't going to be in body!

Torres stated last year that we need three or four quality players, now if they are not coming then I think it is stretching it to suggest he will stay. The only thing in our favour is Barcelona might not have the money, and Madrid are out of the equation, Chelsea possibly and City, no chance.

How can we expect it IF we have the same side?

Spurs and City were better last season and will strengthen. If we stay the same I think we're playing for 6th

Because we were such a huge amount shitter than we should have been. Maybe you've managed to wipe last season from your memory, in which case fair fucks. But I can remember countless dropped points we should have been picking up. And we were only seven points off. It's not difficult to see how we could have been seven points better is it? Seriously?

I agree that it would be tougher without strengthening, but if we had exactly the same squad but played 20% better it should still be achievable in my opinion.

Sad thing is, they will strengthen and we will weaken.

It's a mightily underwhelming appointment but no need to skew the facts, he's done a fantastic job at Fulham.

Fantastic!

He has acheived the same as McLaren! In fact he has done less, as McLaren reached the final of the UEFA after winnign a trophy, didn't see too many people pushing him for a top job.

And I am not sqewing the facts, I am just offering a different opinion! The facts are that he hasn't won a major league and he is 63! Good job or fantastic job is an opinion not a fact.

He has had a good season!

So taking a team from the brink of relegation to their highest league position in their history, followed by a European final within two years is not doing a fantastic job? Right.

I love the optimism mate, but I disagree

Mancini and Redknapp are better managers than Hodgson

City have just signed another centreback for silly money. There 3 top centrebacks, Lescott, Boateng and Toure cost over £50m. Our 3 top centre backs cost £11m. Not the be all and end all I know but that is what we're up against.

Spurs play good football and are Champions League. They can attract better quality now. How many of their team would get in ours already? Probably 5 or 6.

We need to be realistic. Whoever we get as manager, if he isn't backed, is realistically looking at 6th. City and Spurs will be streets ahead of us next season

What are you going to do about it then? Wait for him in an alleyway with two snooker balls in a sock? Grow up. Like I said, I don't want him. No way. But I won't be on his back hoping he fails either. I want the team to do as well as they can, even with the club rotten through. What's your alternative, or are you just a gobshite?

Ha ha

The fact that the club told us that Purlsow and Kenny will be leading the appointment, and then ignore everything that Kenny says, tells you everything about this appointment.

And anyone calling for fans to back him, are deluded. Sooner or later you have to say no, you have to!

Not at all.

If Portsmouth hadn't gone into administration we wouldn't have even qualified for the Europa League Preliminary rounds! That is not getting the best out of the players that we have at the club.

If you think I am optimistic then I suggest you are not reading what I'm writing.

Optimistic, unrealistic, call it what you will.

You said you expect a challenge for fourth by simply changing the manager and keeping the squad we have.

No chance

Without investment, regardless who the manager is we'll be playing for 6th
