Laudrup surprised at Sturridge 'quick recovery'

Michael Laudrup has questioned Daniel Sturridge's commitment to the England side by expressing his surprise that the striker is expected to be fit to line up against Laudrup's Swansea side on Monday night, despite being ruled out of England's two recent World Cup qualifying matches.

“I was a little surprised" said the Dane. "We talk about a young player, a huge talent, and I am sure he would have played in a crucial game [for England] the other day. But he was injured and yet 48 hours later he is fit to play against us… I thought there were some rules that if you were injured you couldn’t just play with your team three of four days later.”

Laudrup was a great player, but clearly he's not such a great mathematician and England played on Tuesday night, meaning Sturridge had six days to get fit for the Swansea game.

I assume a big deal will be made out of Rooney scoring the vital 2nd goal for the Mancs today after starting for them today, a full 2 and a half days before our game takes place, then?

Or is it just Sturridge who should risk further injury playing for England?

I've always liked Michael Laudrup but those snidey comments have put me right off him. Not only was he factually inaccurate with the timings (as Dave pointed out), but it's also none of his business.

Anyway, even if it was 48 hours later - it might have taken those 48 hours for the player to be fit enough to play. It's not like there were two games on the same day (so at the same level of fitness) and the player chose Liverpool over England.

Can't you just picture Henry Winter's gurning visage atop an article indignant about Sturridge's recovery? He'll spin it into a yarn involving a wider conspiracy about the "disrespect" shown to Hodgson a fortnight ago, all while failing to mention or peddling excuses for Rooney.

He's not very good at the mind games is poor Michael. I hope Sturridge does something similar to Luis dive against Moyes at the pit last year. That would shut him up. Actually, just a goal from Dannny will hopefully shut him up.
