PODCAST: Leicester 0 Liverpool 3 - Match Reaction

A win made in the Academy as Curtis and Trent bagged the goals to keep the Reds winning run going and maintain the pressure on the teams above.

Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards and TLW Editor Dave Usher to reflect on a good night's work for the lads and to discuss the ramifications of the result at both ends of the table.

I know. Immediately regretted that, it was a low blow for a cheap laugh. I should be better than that, he's one of the good guys and gets way too much shit without me contributing to it. Allardyce was fair game but Cooper didn't deserve it.

My toothache probably played a part as I was lashing out all over the place because I'd been in pain all day. No excuse though, sorry Steve, you don't actually look like a weird alien.

All I took from this is that next season Darwin is going to go to some party and get off with a load of women, which i'm all for, but i doubt his wife will be happy!

I just checked and the Firmino song went on for over 12 minutes and it was still being sung when Trent hammered the free kick in. Fucking brilliant and well deserved.

The away fans were outstanding last night

Thank you gents for a grand pod. I saw it was almost an hour and half long and questioned how you’d dragged it out, but as ever it could have gone another hour easily. Great entertainment, especially winding up Dave who soldiered on with the Salah first season v’s Nunez first season chat despite Jules and Chris literally laughing at him. A few comments though as I know the lads hosting are waiting with bated breath for my musings:

  • Jules’s “7 dart finish” comment is actually spot on. We’re going 9 dart finishes while City are claiming 7 dart finishes despite it being obvious cheating and are been handed the trophies.

  • Trent has been reborn in his new role, but, dare I say it, I thought he was poor first half. He was giving the ball away and making poor decisions. He was great 2nd half though.

  • Nice to see Dave give Fabinho the love he deserves. He’s been good for quite some time now and should be starting next season. It was proper lighthouse stuff at times last night. The

  • Dave should be a politician. He disagrees with people completely but makes it seem like he respects their opinion before basically saying they’re wrong with a line he says at least twice in every pod. That line should now be his middle name - Dave “yeah I see what you’re saying and I don’t disagree, but….” Usher.

  • The Arsenal love in at the end of the pod was a bit worrying. Saying you feel sorry for Arsenal fans? I wish I had an alternate universe machine where I could transport the 3 of you to a world where arsenal won this league as I can guarantee you they would have never shut up taking the piss out of us and how we nearly always fell behind whereas they just needed one good season to win it. They’d have been a nightmare. Being very happy Arsenal haven’t won it does not in any way legitimise Man City.

  • Dave’s Darwin Nunez failing with all the birds at a party analogy felt a bit David Brent.

Finally, I think for the summer you should start a thread here for pod discussion suggestions outside of the obvious new signing pods.

Also, will you be doing preseason match pods? I can’t remember if you did that last summer?

I see what you're saying Johnny and I don't necessarily disagree, but...

If Arsenal had won it their fans would have had every right to be a nightmare and to be unbearable. My problem with Arsenal fans was always how smug and arrogant they'd be when they had absolutely no reason for it. Completely unjustified smelling of oneselves. It wound me up massively. Them being smug and arrogant about winning the league wouldn't have bothered me, as fans should be smug and arrogant about it. It's called bragging rights.

I'm glad they didn't win it for reasons I've spoke about at length before, but Arsenal are a proper club, doing things the right way and I've got some empathy with them because we know what it's like being up against cheats. Arsenal fans may have been knobheads when we were going up against City for the league, but next time they probably won't be as their perspective will have changed.

I just want people to be bitching about City ruining the league rather than trying banter Arsenal about 'bottling' it.

Yeah, that’s a very good example of why I say you should have a new middle name….

But you make a good point I can’t disagree with other than to say there’s a difference between bragging rights, and insufferable cunt rights.

Oh, and by the way, my beer of choice for few years now has been Moretti. I’ve been enjoying it and singing its praises. But then on a recent family holiday at centreparcs I tried this new (to me) lager called Madri. I thought it was lovely and I’ve been drinking it quite regularly since. So thanks for fucking that up for me @RedKnight I was in Tesco earlier and couldn’t bring myself to buy “expensive carling” and so went back to Moretti.

I've enjoyed Trent being in midfield, but there are occasions when he's got the ball in the middle and turns to give it to the wing but there's nobody where the right back should be.

The issue of Trent possibly needing rest, or getting injured next season. My gut feeling is that if he’s considered an out and out midfielder, and we have a solid back four, we simply need to buy a replacement/substitute to play in his stead, or use the most appropriate player with the vision and energy (Bajcetic? Elliot? Jones?) to be coached to the TAA role.

It's a very fine line though.

Great podcast.  That's a great point Dave makes about how City can afford to buy someone for huge money and can let them have a shit first season/bench them and then they are brilliant the following season and how we can't do that (or any other team for that matter)

Disappointed with so called hair aficionados Chris, Jules and Dave speaking at length about Trent and not mentioning his absolutely boss dreads. They are nearly at Origi level.

Hmmm, yeah that's an oversight. I haven't seen such a fan of the full dreads until now because I'd associated them with his slump. Now he's back to being amazing again, it might be time they got some love.
