If this were indeed true, I'd expect to start seeing updates from people in Asia and Australasia saying that service has been resumed.

I honestly think there is more to it than what is being relayed to users by Sony.

It seemed to go off midnight GMT time, how can that be explained though? I thought it happened to everyone around the world at the same time so why did it go off on GMT time?

I have no idea, if it is GMT related I'll be surprised, but not at the same time, if you get me?

I have no idea how PSN is setup, whether it's localised to continents, or if it runs off a central hub in a specific location, London for example. If it's the latter, then the GMT issue is certainly a feasible one. If the former, then I have not got a clue.

All PS3's internal clocks are set to GMT.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

I'd have thought that the US specific consoles would be set to EST, or perhaps PST, as we know how the Americans like to control their own things.

I think midnight will resolve a lot of questions. But if trophies have been wiped and saves corrupted permanently, then there's going to be a lot of angry people.

Personally, I'm not bothered about the trophy aspect of this, the save games however may be a pain in the arse.

I'm assuming that Sony would be able to recover all this data up to the point of failure, or near as dammit.

I've not had my PS3 on since Saturday, and I don't intend to switch it on until the bug has been confirmed as being fixed, so hopefully I won't see anything amiss.

I think the big thing about trophies is that the hardcore gamers out there do collect them. I think the way levels etc are worked out are a bit complicated but I will try and get a trophy if I can. My mate is a proper hardcore gamer, he'll go through the fucking roof if he loses anything.

However, I'm not worrying - like yourself my PS3 hasn't been on for a while and won't be doing so until the Y2K bug has been resolved.

Sorted. Happy with the speed that this has sorted itself or its been sorted. Not inconvenienced massively because I'm not a heavy gamer, just a few games of FIFA a day.

Anyone interested in the trophy situation, if your trophies are not showing up for a certain game in the trophy section on the main dashboard just put in the game thats missing let it load up and then take it out, your trophies should be back. Just read that on DS so don't shoot the messenger.

Yep, that worked for me. Looks like I lost some of my saved data for MW2 but i don't care so long as I have my ps3 back.I didn't try another game after I initially got the error so everything else should be fine.
