We looked weak in the centre with Arbeloa and Finnan was all over the place at right back.

 

The formation Rafa is playing requires the full backs to get up and down the pitch and especially for Middlesboroughs second goal he was caught not been able to get back.

babel - is being played too far from goal

 

lucas - is confused whether to attack or defend

 

in babel's case this may well change as I'm sure in time he will be given more chances up front (maybe) given his age I wasn't expecting anything from him so this season is experience as far I'm concerned.

 

lucas is situated between gerrard and masherano an out and out holding midfield and an out and out attacking midfielder and to my mind he looked confused whether to spend his time shielding the defence with masher or playing further forward to be a goal threat with gerrard, unlike gerrard lucas doesn't have the passing range of alonso to dictate play from deep and doesn't have the mobility of masherano to get up and down the pitch and I've yet to see if he possess the attacking instincts to make driving timed runs into the box ala scholes. in his defense he is 20 and if finding himself but if it were me giving him instructions I'd tell him he is an attacking player and push further up the pitch especially when masherano is covering for him.
