Luis Suarez is back in Uruguay, which means two things: Him doing interviews, and his team-mates talking about his future.
Whilst motormouth Edinson Cavani once again suggested that his strike partner's future lies away from Anfield, Suarez himself insists that he's now 'calmer' and more in control of himself on the pitch, and that skipper Steven Gerrard played a big part in 'his' decision to stay.
“Gerrard, for me, is a legend in Liverpool and a great team-mate that helped me a lot" said the striker. "His attitude was an extra boost for me to take the decision to stay in Liverpool -- both he and the fans of Liverpool influenced much for that."
“I admire him for the great player he is worldwide. For me he will always be a benchmark and at club level he is the best player I have played with in my career, as a person and as a footballer.”
So there you have it, it was Steven Gerrard and the fans that convinced him to stay, the club's point blank refusal to entertain any offers for him, particularly those from Arsenal, obviously had nothing to do with it. . .
Suarez has scored three goals in three games since his return from suspension, and just as significantly he has not been involved in any flashpoints and - fingers crossed - has appeared to be a lot less, shall we say, highly strung, a point he was keen to stress to the Uruguayan media: “I am aware that in recent matches that I played I've been calmer,” he said. “I am very self-critical and I realised that playing well, with more tranquility, is helping me a lot. I realise and I prefer to continue and not be the same as before.”
