Reds set to un-fire the Lazar?

According to the Liverpool ECHO the Reds have the option to recall Lazar Markovic from his loan spell at Fenerbahce in the January window, and Jurgen Klopp “is likely” to do it.

Markovic was sent to Turkey for the year by former boss Brendan Rodgers who never really fancied him, but the club (not Rodgers) were always adamant that he would return. Usually season long loans cannot be cut short unless the other club decides to send the player back, so it’s interesting that Liverpool have the option to recall the player as it suggests there was no loan fee involved.

Perhaps the club were planning for the very situation that developed, with Rodgers losing his job and his replacement seeing the £20m Markovic as a viable option? With games coming thick and fast and a growing injury list restricting the manager’s options to rotate, Markovic would have been a useful option to have now, but come January that may not be the case depending on whether or not the Reds progress in the cup competitions.

Right now recalling Markovic looks like a good idea, but that may change by the time he is eligible for a return and Klopp will have to weigh up whether or not the Serbian will get games here or if he would be better served playing every week for Fenerbahce.

With Joe Gomez now ruled out for the season Andre Wisdom is another loanee who Klopp could really use right now. Handed a contract extension over the summer, he was then promptly shipped off to Norwich where he has featured just twice in the Premier League.

The idea was for him to gain experience through regular football, but Norwich aren’t delivering that so perhaps an agreement could be reached to terminate his loan, although with Jon Flanagan due back in December the need for full back cover may be less pressing.

Liverpool transfer news: Reds refusing to sell Lazar Markovic - even for £20m, claim Fenerbahce

Jurgen Klopp could be set to offer Serbian winger a second chance at Anfield

Fenerbahce claim Liverpool will not sell Lazar Markovic even if the Turkish club offer £20m for the on-loan winger.

Markovic joined Liverpool from Benfica for £20m in the summer of 2014 but struggled to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers at Anfield and was then loaned to Fenerbahce for the season last August.

The Turkish club have been impressed enough by the winger to consider making the move permanent, but Jurgen Klopp appears reluctant and, according to daily newspaper Sabah, Liverpool have monitored the player in every Fenerbahce game this season and would not sell him even for £20m.

Markovic only scored three times for Liverpool but produced some eye-catching displays - particularly in the second half of the campaign - that suggested there is more to come.

And given Jurgen Klopp’s relative lack of incision in midfield, Markovic staying at Anfield does not appear to be out of the question.

Markovic this week revealed that he left Anfield because of a breakdown in communication with Rodgers. “I had no problem with Brendan Rodgers and we had a bond until, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, he changed,” Markovic said.

“He stopped playing me and then at the start of the season he didn't even include me in the squad, and nobody explained to me what was going on or what his plans were, so I decided to leave.”

The last two paragraphs seem a bit crazy. Rodgers simply didn't have a chat with him before he left? Really? Surely one of them might have thought can we get together to clear the air and work out where I/you fit in?

Anyone got that vine of him bricking himself on the floor?

Can't wait for him to come back and pull the red shirt on for the first time again so I can immediately write him off as shit and the living embodiment of the club's committee lead transfer policy.

Perhaps Rodgers was too busy talking to the media.

You know, tactical genius, outstandingness etc.

Don't want him back. He was rubbish for most of the time he was here. I remember going to the Boro game in the CC and against Championship opposition he was possibly our worst player. Just ran into the defender every time and lost the ball .

I like Markovic and will be happy to see him back. I think part of the reason for his struggles last season was the fact that Rodgers had no clue what to do with him. He excels on the left or behind the striker and yet Rodgers played him at wingback. He's much more talented than he's shown here and I think people are confused as to what type of player he is, and as a result, they expect things that he can't provide.

He's not a traditional winger who tries to get to the byline, and he doesn't excel at taking on players 1 on 1. His strengths are his ability to run with the ball on the counter, his workrate and his vision/movement. He is better in tight areas than he is out wide trying to beat a fullback.

He needs to provide more end product if he is to really make it here, but he's only 21 and he has the talent to do it.

I trust Klopp to develop young players far more than I did Rodgers.  If Klopp sees something in him that he can develop, we should back him on that.

Isn't that one of the reasons the club employed him and plenty of us on here were happy with that ?

Do people think Klopp will be in complete charge of who stays and who goes? I reckon he'll just have to lump the fact that FSG aren't going to write off yet another batch of no-hopers before he has been told to have a go at getting something out of them for a while longer.

I do have optimism that Klopp can attract a few decent targets but I think the night of the long knives might have a disappointingly early bedtime.

Would Sterling have sold for £49M if he'd played almost exclusively at wing back?

Also, would Markovic look more of a player now if he'd actually been able to play in his preferred half of the pitch, and with Suarez and/or Sturridge running riot in front of him?

His other impressive qualities are a wonderful first-touch and fast accurate pass.

Unfortunately, he is a bit of a tart who is too easily kicked out of a game.

However, he is a player of pace and skill which is what our attack lacks. I too will welcome him back.
