He is right that he wasn't the only one taking drugs at that time, it seems they all were.

 

But they'll make an example of him.

 

He wasn't the only one doesn't mean:

 

(1) all of them were;

 

(2) those who were doing so were doing so equally or to equal effect;

 

(3) those who were doing so had equal access to the best available performance enhancers;

 

(4) those who were doing so were doing so without coercion (by, among others, Armstrong himself).

True.

 

I read an excellent, scientifically-informed article about the myth of the level playing field in cycling the other day. Alas, it now escapes me.

 

But Armstrong is trying the cultivate that myth by claiming that everybody was or could have been doing what he was doing.

It's too simplistic to say all riders were doping. Some were clean and they get lumped in with a big bunch of cheaters, but that's not fair to those who tried to win without doping and unfortunately some of them will never get the recognition they deserve.

 

A lot and all of the overall candidates most likely used something, but there has been quite a few riders who have quit because the knew the others were doping and/or because they didn't get the results they were hoping for.
