Guest The Chimp
Albufeira the place apparently

All the Algarve is lovely - great beaches, nice people, fantastic climate. I loved Villamoura (sp). Very, very pretty. A small casino, marina, nice restaurants, great golf courses and a great beach. It's a little quiet and if you fancy something a bit livelier Albufeira is the place - beauty is though that was only fifteen or so minutes away from Villamoura anyway. We stayed in Albufeira as well and again I really enjoyed it - plenty to do and not full of Brits on the piss type-cunts. So pros and cons for both: Villamoura = prettier. Albufeira = more to do.

I havent been there for years, but I'll try and add my two cents cos I've been there 2 or 3 times. When I went, we stayed once in Albufeira, once in praia da Oura and once in the Hotel Montechoro at the very top of the strip.

I'd definately recommend going, but it depends on what type of holiday you want.

Albufeiras a nice old town, brilliant architecture and a lovely beach (where I saw Cliff Richard play. That was one of the more bizarre moments of my life.)

The strip is a massive road going up a hill about a 30 minute walk to the east of Albufeira. I would totally recommend going - lots of stalls and bars, very lively, lots to do.

I'm definately going to go again at some point. Have a good holiday, whatever you decide to do mate.

And when you go, try the fish. Some of the nicest fish I've ever tasted was when I went to Portugal. Freshest fish you'll ever eat without catching it yourself.

And of course some peri-peri chicken goes down a treat.

I fucking love fish me and Piri Piri goes without saying

My bird has being going on about these little mini tarts (cakes) ..pretty sure its the main reason she wants to go

Snap, I stayed in Montechoro and thought it was spot on. Nice and cheap and at the top of the strip so you're far enough away from the nightlife to go to sleep, but still close enough to walk down.

I went during the last world cup and the atmosphere was quality. Ended up watching the Portugal/Holland game there and the atmosphere was amazing on the strip, cars going up and down with flags, hot birds everywhere. Twas a good night.

AYYYY PORTUGAL ALLEEEEEYY

Its reasonable mate. I was there a couple of months back....

There are bars on the strip that do pints of Superbock for 1.50 euros all night.

Food is reasonable priced too and lots of restaurants but be careful with the Piri Piri its fucking Joke Shop Hot over there not like nando's!!!

The old town is sound of a night for the family lots of nice places to eat and little bar/restaurants. The strip has a few lids and 18-30's going on.

Sagres is the other good local beer

Found it a bit expensive last year compared with others due to euro being so strong against sterling

Try sizzling stone restaurant just off the strip for steak/lamb/fish etc etc

Think the cake your bird wants is almond cake which is the local speciality

Beaches great food good drink reasonable if you go into old town loads of tvs showing football in bars and outside on streets have a pint watch world cup al fresco
