I wonder whether eventually that Flintoff will realise that there hasn't been a form of cricket invented yet called 1 over...and that you are actually allowed to bat for as long as you can before you are got out instead of trying to flail every ball miles into the air with you head up and no technique whatsoever...maybe today will be the day.

Arse raping here we come. That was fairly shocking.

I don't hold with this 20/20 'specialist' shite, a good cricketer is a good cricketer, if a player is International standard then he should be proficient at all forms of competitive Cricket as ultimately its about ability and technique.

Schofield still doesn't know which end of the bat to hold.

That's oversimplistic. Chappell made the point that we maybe should have chosen players that were proven at international standard, and I have some sympathy for that point. But there is an obvious difference in this form of the game, Monty Panesar would be a certain pick otherwise though, so would Ali Cook.

But Adam, Cook knows how to hit boundaries, he has been doing it at International level for a while now...4s do aswell as 6s if you hit them regularly enough. Prior isn't an International class opener whether it be 20 overs or 50 overs and even though 20/20 is a crash bang wallop game to a point, you still have time to look at things and play shots rather than trying to hoy every ball into the River no matter what the merits of the delivery. Flintoff still has shockingly bad shot selection for a number 6 batsman in any form of the game.

Maddy looked out of his depth as he has only experienced domestic pie throwers for most of his career.

Panesar is a wicket taking, attacking bowler and should be in the team..taking wickets is the best form of stopping the opposition scoring in all forms of cricket, also having a good technique is a pre-requisite for a batsman in all forms of International Cricket.

I'll have to agree to disagree. Monty would take some real stick in 20/20 I reckon. As for Cook I think he should be in the ODI team, but I don't think he's fluid enough for twenty twenty yet.

Aye well thats fair enough like and I'd probably agree, but for me its not just about the individuals named, its the principle of getting the best players into the team... deficiencies in technique can sometimes be covered over in the shortened version of the game batting wise, but not always bowling. It still requires technique, experience and judgement and not necessarily a bigger hammer merchant who tries to sky every ball. Bits and pieces cricketers have their place, but they can look very drab against the best.

I think Monty would do better than what we saw today in all honesty, we saw a load of bowlers out of their depth.

crims hahaha where did they all come from? I don't know if it's below us but it's a game which involves a lot of luck and the Aussie national team has hardly played it at all bar a few exhibition games at the start of tours winning this tournament would rate a looooooooooong way behind the real world cup.

Is your neighbour called Bruce Bush?
