Various reports continue to link Liverpool with a January move for PSG's unsettled Argentine Javier Pastore, whilst Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic is now also said to be on Brendan Rodgers' new year shopping list.
Speculation has been rife for weeks that the Reds plan on making a move for Pastore after the 24 year old appeared to have become surplus to requirements in Paris. The capture of Pastore in 2011 marked the start of PSG's big spending as they shelled out €40m to prize him away from Italian side Palermo. He responded by scoring 16 goals in his first season in the French capital but has failed to build on that bright start and is reportedly available for a knock down £17m.
A natural 'number 10', Pastore was the subject of interest from Arsenal last summer before they eventually landed Mesut Ozil, whilst according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Napoli and AC Milan are both reportedly keen to take him back to Serie A when the transfer window re-opens.
Meanwhile, reports in Portugal claim the Reds are plotting a move for £30m rated Benfica star Matic. The Serbian international joined the Portuguese side from Chelsea as part of the deal that took David Luiz to Stamford Bridge in 2011 and has since developed into one of Europe's most highly rated midfielders. He was named Primieira Liga Player of the Year last season and according to A Bola the Reds will face stiff competition for his signature from Chelsea and Real Madrid.
So, are Pastore and Matic realistic targets? Would they be good additions and whose place would they take if they came here?
