it's not just about the injury i don't think though. these moments he gets in the team now are the building blocks that shape his career. we don't know how long he will be out for, but we do know from other players it is really hard to get the rhythm to get back in this team after a big injury. he could effectively lose the season even if he is only injured till xmas. let's hope the layoff isn't too long and he can get some more games under his belt this season.

Just think he's trying to support a fellow pro to be honest. As many have said, although it was a genuine attempt for the ball (indeed, he wins the ball), the fact that he leaves the ground and it's the knee of his trailing leg that comes down and does the damage, for me the red is justified.

Totally agree he's obviously been brought up extremely well a credit to his family and the club 

I think the fact they've said they're 'confident' he'll play again this season suggest that with if all goes to plan he'll be back well before May.

Harvey Elliott has shown encouraging signs in his road to recovery from an ankle break at Leeds by posting an image of him on an exercise bike. 

The 18-year-old Reds midfielder fractured his left ankle in a challenge by Leeds' Pascal Struijk that left him screaming in agony, just as the teenager was getting up and running in Jurgen Klopp's first team squad.

No timescale has been set for Elliott's return to action at Anfield but an image posted on his Instagram account on Tuesday is an important first checkpoint reached for the young midfielder. 

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott is back on the exercise bike just 23 days after his ankle injury at Leeds

The post came a few days after Elliott shared a snippet of him donning an oxygen mask for a photo showing the beginning of his rehabilitation programme. 

The 18-year-old is expected to return to action before the end of this season, with  Reds doctor Jim Moxon revealing the first responses from the medics on the Elland Road pitch were crucial to Elliott's recovery time. 

Last week, Elliott has posted an image of him wearing an oxygen mask in the rehab process

Moxon said: 'We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident. The operation was a success so his comeback starts now.

'We won't put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.'

Elliott was just getting into his stride at Anfield after impressing Klopp in pre-season, which prompted the Reds to not strive for a midfield replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who departed for PSG over the summer.

Elliott started his first Premier League match of the season for the Reds against Burnley and was then handed a shock chance from the off against title rivals Chelsea on August 28.

However, his first match after the September international break saw Elliott struck down on 63 minutes during the Leeds clash, which has threatened his continued involvement for the Reds this season.

Classy player. Little bit of the early-years Wilshire about him, which is a huge compliment. Hopefully get him back for later in season, and he doesn't lose mobility as a result.

We have to realise that 17 and 18 year olds who reach the first team have already been playing football regularly(two or three times a week) for 8,9,10 years before they hit the first team. The physical strain of playing so much football alongside playing against players who are men and 10-15 years older in some cases is a big step up. I am not saying this has anything to do with Elliott specifically but these are among the main reasons most managers are reluctant to play young players a lot while they are still growing physically,let alone tactically. While Klopp has faith in Elliott and Jones et al from a technical and skill point of view,he will still understand that they cannot be expected to perform like 27 year olds across a whole season. Elliott,and Jones to a certain extent,inclusions are not ideal and are a result of experienced players letting the club down,Ox and Keita mostly.

As horrific an injury as it looks, it appears to have a relatively short recovery time, if Gomes at Everton is anything to go by.
