PODCAST: Winter Break Special

What is it going to take to win the Premier League this season? Darwin clicking in front of goal? New signings? Or the young players rising to the occasion? And how does the spectre of a Man City resurgence alter our expectations?

Chris Smith, Dave Usher and Paul Natton used the winter break to take some listener questions on our player of the year so far, the Reds best XI and what we would consider a successful season from this point.

We pick the Liverpool players we'd stake our lives on in a penalty shoot out and how the matchday experience has changed in our long years attending Anfield.

Great pod. But damn! I've just thought of a great question that needs answering at some point :

We manage to get to a final this season and it goes to pens. It goes to sudden death. Darwin steps up - what's going through your head?

He'd be one of the five takers so wouldn't be on sudden death, but that doesn't even matter because even if we were 5-0 up and he stepped up to take a pen I'd be a nervous wreck. Not because I don't believe in him, but because I know what I'd be facing if he missed.

Great Pod lads. On the penos, if your life is on the line then it's got to be lads that score even if the keeper goes the right way. They have to be capable and confident of going high and to either side.

Milner

Trent

Gerrard

Molby

Souness

Alexis Mc Allister would have made the list if he ever took one. Beardsley, Whelan and Fowler would be close to the top 5 as well.

No place for Aldo, I think he would struggle with the analysis keepers have available to them. Plus he missed the biggest one he ever took.

That's assuming that Aldo wouldn't be able to mix it up, which I think he would. Other than Molby, he's the one I'd be most confident in.

On that logic you wouldn’t have Roberto Baggio taking pens for Italy when he’s the most successful penalty taker ever in Serie A and for Italy.

Too fucking right I wouldn't, my life is on the line.

All the shade about my goal kicks is perfectly fair, but to mitigate it:

- I can throw the ball further than most people can kick it. Huerlio Gomes modelled his game on me.

- My penalty saving record was amazing, I saved 3 out of 4 I faced for TLW.

I really enjoy those pods. Just easy listening fun. Paul texting at the end effectively pleading to be allowed go to bed still has me chuckling now.

It’s very affectionate shade mate. You know that.

Would he though? Mo, Virg, Trent, Macca & Jota for me. Darwin probably after Dom on 7th.

He would cannon it off the crossbar, I'm convinced of it.

Enjoyed that, thanks lads.

One thing I can never get my head around is why the Premier League cannot enforce an immediate punishment on City for not submitting accounts (since 2018, I think). Surely they should not allow them enter the league if they haven’t abided by the rules.

I am presuming that it is a rule, otherwise why the fuck would Everton or Forest have submitted theirs for the past few years?

I reckon that’s the one they’re almost guaranteed to lose on. The other charges - who knows how the sly cunts might swerve then? That one though seems unavoidable.

They'll act like Amazon, 'we left the accounts in the PL wheely bin at the bottom of the driveway'.

Had a few beers when I posted that, not sure what I was thinking having Virg in there. Point still stands with the rest though!
