They're the one band I feel guilty about not liking. I feel like I should love them, and I've tried, but I just can't.

Don't get me wrong, OK Computer's a decent album and I do like the odd song, but for some reason, I'm just ambivalent towards them, even though I respect them as musicians and I've got a lot of time for Jonny Greenwood; who I think is fantastic. I loved the work he did on There Will Be Blood.

They should stick to singles and EPs. They've done the "concept" album (or rather, album with an overall sensibility and artistic vision) to death with OK Computer (and to a lesser extent Kid A) -- those were just massively complete and rewarding experiences. In Rainbows was brilliant at bits, but overall it had some complete throw-aways. But "House of Cards" is one of their best songs to date, as was "There There" from Hail to the Thief. They still have it in them, but are releasing too many songs that I skip immediately. Great band, though.

Funny you should say that, as i thought House of Cards was easily the worst track on In Rainbows, it just plods along going nowhere really. From 15 Step to All I Need there is not one moment of dullness, and Reckoner is just amazing.

The thing I really like about them is that they never try and replicate what they have done on their previous record

I completely agree. I'm not a massive fan (although I have all their records and I've seen them live - fucking brilliant! - twice) but the thing I really like about them (apart from their many great songs) is the fact that they remain so fresh. My biggest gripe with mainstream "rock" (I can't think of a better generic term, sorry) is that it is so uniformly dull: repetitive and derivative, for the most part. I also find that melody seems to be a dirty word with so many bands. Not so Radiohead. I quite like that thing on the YouTube link you put up, by the way.

You mean the song? Yes, it's grown on me enormously now. The recent "Harry Patch" tune doesn't really do anything for me, musically it's nice enough but Thom Yorke's voice doesn't seem to fit against the backdrop of orchestration in this instance. This track is far more satisfying.
