Torres: LFC fans have loving words for me

Fernando Torres is 30 today and it would appear he's overdone the partying somewhat, as he's bizarrely claimed that "the Liverpool fans I have come across have had loving words for me." Put the bottle down, Fernando, you've clearly had too much.

The Spanish striker who left Anfield for Chelsea in January 2011 in a £50m deal, was speaking to Spanish newspaper AS on a wide range of subjects including his time on Merseyside, and once again repeated his "the fans don't know the real story" mantra before once again declining to set the record straight and tell us the 'real story'.

"I played three-and-a-half years there and they made me feel at home," Torres said. "The affection of the fans was tremendous and made me feel a quiet confidence."

Speaking about his reasons for leaving, he trotted out the same old lines we've heard several times before, both from Torres and also his former team-mate Javier Mascherano who had jumped ship a few months earlier: "They (the fans) haven't understood because all they've been told is the version that some people have given the club and the media. They have been sold something which isn't reality.

"I'm sure it's not easy to understand when a player leaves, but I have the thousands of letters I've received in London from Liverpool fans thanking me and now following me in another team. Last year we went to play at Anfield and a man over 70, almost in tears, thanked me and wished me the best.

"There will be every kind of reaction but the Liverpool fans I have come across have had loving words for me."

Thousands of letters eh? From Liverpool fans still following you as you play for Chelsea?  Sure, Fernando, of course you have.

just to be petty, he hasn't won the Premier league, I also don't think all those trophies really count for anything, apart from the Euros he has contributed fuck all in his teams successes, just an exotic David May

You're right he hasn't. He won The Europa with Chelsea instead, not as good, but not too bad.

He's not very good now but he was one of the best strikers we've ever had. Hardly 'nothing'.

He's 'nothing' enough for me not to give a fuck what he says in the press or who he plays for these days.

He made a significant contribution by way of his goals deciding matches in Europe on a few occasions, so fair enough for those, his CL winner's medal is the only one among what he won at Chelsea that counts for anything. That said, it's the any club would expect from a player that cost £50M.

His league medal which he qualifies offically after making  the mandatory 10 appearances in a title winning side is as deserved/worthless as Owen's was for Utd. We've all eaten chocolate easter eggs which were less hollow than those.

Call me fucked up but I actually wish him well now he's away from that footballing black hole. He's a cunt for what he did but he's paid his penance, he's effectively wasted his career and will be regarded as a less arsed version of Michael Owen, a man without a country no longer loved by anyone but his mum.

Haha, the same day as Mourinho's, "as far as I know he's staying, we need him, the squad is closed" speech.

Twat.

Wonder will the media make as big a deal out of that as they've done when Rodgers said Balotelli wouldn't be signing and then did? Will they fuck. It'll probably be "Oh Jose, the little scamp.Pulling the wool over our eyes again!".

Cunts! The press and Chelsea both.

2 year loan to AC Milan. How long was his contract with the Chavs. Surely that must see him to the end of it and they'll get nothing for him at the end.

It takes him to the end of his chav contract so it's effectively a free transfer

Enigma to me Torres.

Arguably the best striker in the world for a couple of seasons  after he joined us . Unplayable at times and deadly when he squared up a defender on the edge of the box.. Never seen a player go from that to a shuffling non-entity of a striker, incapable of converting the simplest chances so quickly, Had to be all in his head , The responsibility probably got him then he couldn't handle the weight of expectation so he would start to hide and lose interest.. Lucky the Chavs didn't spot it before they piled in for him because he definitely has the issues before he left,

We sold him to Chelsea for £50m. After a few fruitless years he effectively goes on a free to Milan, who in turn sell us their best player on the cheap for £16m. Sale of the fucking century, if you ask me.

Absolutely stinking it up in Italy apparantly. What the hell happened to this fella? Has a player ever fallen so far?

I can't think of one, he was scarily good for us for a while.
