What exactly is he supposed to do? He wants to leave, he's made that abundantly clear but no cunt wants to buy him for the price we want.

 

Considering what his wages must be I'm not sure why we're hung up on a £3.9m fee, it's hardly like we value him at £20m and Napoli want him for a tenner. It's obviously going to be the best thing for us and him if he goes, so why not just sell him for what we can get and move on.

Yep. I had him as one of the top keepers in the world at his peak with us. Hard to make an argument for him being in the top ten in England by the time he left, though.

On those wages and given his current status, we'd do well to get rid on a free.

Pepe's comments, rafa's comments and brendan's comments are all just part of the dance. Everyone knows how this ends, the soap opera that will evolve over the next 4 weeks can just be ignored, it will all be lies and more lies.

What we really need is a mad scientist to splice Reina's command of his area, decision making and distribution into Mignolet.  That'd be a hell of a keeper.

Failing that, we need to resolve the Reina situation in good enough time to bring in a keeper who can actually challenge Mignolet for the starting berth.  Vorm would have been good.  I'm tempted to suggest Artur Boruc, just for shits and giggles (and for all their whining about the cruise liner terminal)

Fuck him. He did everything he could to wheedle his way into Barca, who didn't want him. He had his chance, did well for a while and was shit at the end. He didn't want to be here and is exactly the kind of mercenary cunt we always say we don't want. Get rid and move on.

I don't think Pep thought we were going to finish 2nd under Rodgers and gambled at a break away. His letter whilst polite to previous regimes left us to our own conclusions for Rodger's team. Currently it looks like he's in a tough place, he isn't wanted enough by Napoli after a season under Rafa (the man he praised) and has returned to a positive and prosperous Liverpool squad that has adjusted to life without him.

If the situation stays as it is, and Pep remains at Liverpool, it will be a humbling experience worsened by his own accord. However it could all change before the transfer window closes.

I'm disheartened to see a Liverpool great reduced to the scenario facing Reina, but I guess that's just the way it is.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I don't get the Brad Jones hate.

I certainly don't hate him as every time I hear from him he comes across as a sound guy but he is an awful keeper at this level, shit myself even in friendlies when the ball comes near him

i remember on that 'being liverpool' programme a bit in the dressing room (half time I think) when Rodgers talks to Reina and Reina just walks off, leaving old Rodgefish looking a bit embarrassed.

I was told I was seeing too much that wasn't there at the time and maybe I was, but this adds a new perspective.

His recent comments about how he's fine with all his teammates also subtly underlined where the discord lies as well. They obviously don't get on, and Pepe appears happy to make that known from his side, while trying to win the PR battle with that letter and other bits and pieces since.

I don't think Rodgers is being touchy or small-time at all not to have that, and to effectively call it out through refererence each time Reina changes his tune on the situation. Brendan's the boss, he's created a thriving team spirit and both gives and receives a large dose of respect where everyone else is concerned.

A senior pro making obvious his lack of regard for the manager is potentially toxic in the dressing room, especially for a new manager making his name in the circumstances Brendan had to, and when you factor in the high wages and unfortunate performance drop off, no doubt linked to the drastic change in Pepe's body shape and mobility, there can only be one winner in the argument.

Would be detrimental to the club if that wasn't Rodgers. Pepe can only look to himself and wolf down some humble pie if he wants any chance of that situation changing, irrespective of what a great keeper he was until 2010, how he didn't join the great Rafa 2nd place team exodus or the comments he made about Duke and Duke.

Both have things they need to improve on, Mignolet is the only one who is at a stage in his career where that's realistically possible.

Reina's coasting, and has been for a while.  On big money too.  I don't see him improving too much in the near future.  Would love to be proved wrong though, it'll be interesting to see how BR manages this one.

I like Mig, but the one area that Reina is significantly better is in distribution, and if we're going to be playing fast counter attacking football that's a good skill to have.

I'm still waiting for some bedwetter who spends a lot of time digesting stats to give us Reina's superior ball distribution figures, conveniently ignoring the loss of competence in his core goalkeeping duties (ie actually preventing the opposition scoring/not making frequent, horrific mistakes).

It's all a bit of a shame because he seems a great fella and was one of the few high profile players to speak out agains the last owners. More importantly, he was a fantastic goalkeeper at his peak.

It's up to Mignolet now to prove he's worthy of holding the shirt in the long term.

Reina had in any case gone into a pretty steep decline and was costing us points in the last two years. Mignolet has made some mistakes, but I bet he won us points more often than costing games - can only really think of City away where he costs us points. For me, he had a better first season than Reina did - Reina did go on to become a great keeper for a few years, but made plenty of errors in his first year and was every bit as unreliable on crosses then as Mig has been.

Reina is clearly calling the club's bluff, sitting there drawing his wages and knowing he's unlikely to play. If it comes to it, we may have to let him go for nothing.

The fat thing's probably a little unfair, but bulking up on muscle certainly seemed to dull his agility over his last couple of seasons for us.

If Reina was on form, I would agree.

But not only has Reina's form been patchy, but clearly his politicking has been a threat to Rodger's Group.

A Mignolet who is grateful, and honoured, to be playing for LFC, will be worth more to the team, and Group, than a Reina who thinks he is doing us a favour, and dreaming of paella the way that mama used to make it.
