PODCAST: West Ham 1 Liverpool 2 - Match Reaction

A decent performance, another three points and a second consecutive away win for the Reds. Things are looking up at long last.

Chris Smith is joined by Julian Richards and TLW Editor Dave Usher to look back on a satisfactory night's work for the lads and to also take a look at the rest of the Premier League action. Are Everton about to finally be flushed, and now that Arsenal's title challenge looks to be over will people finally start to acknowledge how City's cheating is ruining football?

The boys also poke fun at Frank Lampard's managerial record.

Another great pod.

Dave's defence of Arsenal reminds me of Rawls with McNulty after Kima got shot:

"You, Arsenal, are a gaping arsehole.  We both know this.  But fuck if I'm gonna stand here and say you did a single thing to bottle the Premier League title.  And the motherfucker saying this... he hates your guts, Arsenal."

Just a quick point on Hendo, it’s only a year to the next Euros and there were only 18 months between tournaments which is why I think he hasn’t retired from England. Had there been a full 2 years between tournaments I think he’d have jacked it in after Qatar.

And I was wrong! We came back to beat Newcastle at home.

On the subject of city, Lance Armstong retired once he had cheated his way to 7 tour de france titles. They should do the same with city, retire the cunts, and put it down as an experiment proven, if you cheat you win, who knew?

Another great listen.  Don't want to sound like a statto, but we didn't beat Wolves at home 3-0 on 4th February, we lost 3-0 away!  Using a US site @Chris?!  Great Fat Bald Frank impression though!

On City, totally on the Dave bus, want City to win to show what a sham this 'competition' is.

Just to clarify something.

I said Chris is the only one who does research. I did not say he does good research.

He also does not do good impressions!  The Fat Bald Frank one was much better than Quint though.

Gotta stick up for my boy here. The Quint one went badly wrong and he's being judged on that rather than his overall body of work. His Lampard impression was quality though.

He also does a mean Buffalo Bill (not as good as mine, but still really good).

Can't see how anyone can rip Chris for impressions after the abomination Dan dropped on us a couple of weeks ago. Now THAT was a bad impression.

Getting pelters here.

Y’all know me. Know what I do for a livin’.

Also, on the point about Chelsea rather than City spoiling a possible golden age for Arsenal, I don’t think we should forget just how much City plundered them for their best players. Nasri, Sagna, Kolo Toure, Clichy and Adebayor were all lured away by filthy lucre.

They’ve been at it for a while.

I listened to the pod on my commute this morning and I have comments:

  • Firstly, I come to the pod for footy chat, but I stay for Jules's analogies.  Super Mario getting a shout today when chatting about Salah!  Who'd have thought?

  • Nice to see a bit more positivity around Fabinho too.  Absolutely can't get may head around people just deciding he's done.

  • I take it back about @Chris Lampard impression.  Very good, and he can use it if he ever needs to do a David Beckham impression too.

  • I was one of those that said was done and should be sold.  I was wrong. He's not the final solution but he gives us excellent options.  I partly blame the club for not being open and telling us what was wrong with him though (I think @dave u might have touched on that before?)

  • Finally, I totally agree with Jules on his City discussion. I'm genuinely not arsed about City doing the treble and I think the vast majority of the football world feels the same because of their rampant cheating. The example of them having In some ways superseded Real Madrid's revenue should be laughed at every time it comes up. And as @dave u said, every time City win the league it puts more pressure on the FA to deal with this out of control sports washing mess they've allowed happen to have the "best league in world".  Let City win it every single season and ruin it.  Arsenal winning gives them all a bit of an excuse.  And like Jules, they've ruined footy for me.  I don't really watch games much anymore.  Just follow them on twitter and don't really care who wins or losses as City are inevitable.

Great pod this one though.  Great fun.  Really enjoyable.  And apologies again to @Chris for assuming the impersonation would be awful.

Didn't someone (John W Henry?) once tweet, asking how much the 2nd bid was, when City announced one of their sponsorship "deals" with Etihad? I think it may have been the 2011 deal - £400m for 10 years, the highest in the history of sport. In 2011, City had won an FA cup, a 2nd division title, a 3rd division playoff and a Full Members cup, since their hugely memorable league cup win 35 years earlier to go with the 7 other major trophies in their history.

For context, Arsenal were one of the biggest name in football in the early 2000s and their deal in 2004, with Emirates, was for £90m over 15 years and that was seen as a game-changer.

I treat their titles similarly to you. I don't watch and it leaves me feeling empty. I even find their brand of possession football soulless. If that is what the Premier League/Sky/BT want the brand to look like, then I will watch Liverpool but it is not something I'd be invested in after that. The 115 charges are the league's last chance,  in my opinion, to save itself.
