  1. In keeping with the thread title, Tony Cascarino stated in his column that the midfield which played against Porto, now minus Courtinho, would prevent Liverpool conceding three goals to the likes of Sevilla. An interesting observation, but I wouldn’t bet any money on it.
  2. Spurs have beaten Madrid already this season.
  3. The country was reminded of Tony Blairs magnificence on Wednesday when Dennis Skinner stated in the House of Commons: “The Blair years were the best period anyone in the NHS had ever experienced.” The Beast of Bolsover then called upon the chancellor to be: “More like Gordon Brown.” Tony’s greatest achievements were for the benefit of the many, admired by the few. Sad but true.
  4. I’ve no doubt we will finish in the top four. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea have their problems too. In many respects theirs are far worse than ours. A win tonight will put us back on track. Anything less and it’s an hysterical fanny option, the river or a gun.
  5. Having spent a world record fee of £90M on a defender, I expect they are even more baffled by the ensuing sarcasm.
  6. You are right to say people forget his achievements, which were impressive. He introduced the minimum wage, greatly reduced child and pensioner poverty, doubled spending on schools and increased heath spending to record levels. Under Blairs leadership, Gordon Brown became only the second Chancellor since the war to reduce the National Debt, Roy Jenkins under Harold Wilson being the first. This was achieved by raising record taxes from the wealthy and maintaining a consistent level of economic growth of a little under 3% for a decade, principally due to Peter Madelsons trade and industry strategy. The banking crisis under Brown blew a hole in the national debt and Iraq left Blair with a toxic legacy, two events that overshadowed his considerable achievements.
  7. My favourite football commentator. Very sad news. RIP.
  8. Moreno for me. He’s improved immensely this season and deserves his recent inclusion in the Spanish squad. Moreno’s superior pace highlights the major defect in Robertson’s game, which saw him struggle against both Bolasie in our last match and against Mustafi when he was introduced at half time by Arsenal in the draw at the Emirates. Both Bolasie and Mustafi are very fast, but neither would have looked so dangerous against the pace of Moreno.
  9. Surprised so many opting for TAA at right back in place of Gomez. The tactical genius that is Shaun Dyce enjoyed explaining how he targeted TAA’s ariel weakness when creating Burnley’s goal at Anfield earlier in the season. I can’t imagine Klopp giving Dyce another opportunity to display his perceptive insights at our expense.
  10. I listened to the game on R5. The commentators were full of praise for Maguire. They said if it wasn’t for his outstanding defence, Liverpool would have scored a shed load. Today’s Sunday Times repeated the compliments for Maguire, claiming he should be a certain starter for England in the WC. Maguire has detractors on this thread and admirers in the media. Fake news is everywhere.
  11. It says in the song, "I got my head shaved........ by H M Bochang". Who or what is H M Bochang?
  12. Great post. Worth it just to hear Stephen Gerrards FA Cup final goal against West ham described thus: That shot held its line like porn stars cum shot, right on the bitches’ face.
  13. Totally agree. Optimistic for the future though Thought we played well, much better than expected and looked equally as good as them
  14. http://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/news/united-linked-with-shock-move-for-liverpools-emre-can/ar-AAt0UtO?li=AA572I&ocid=spartandhp Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is the latest name to be linked with a surprise move to Old Trafford, as per ESPN, who cite TalkSPORT. The sought-after midfielder’s contract comes to an end next year, and although Liverpool have been trying to renegotiate a new contract with him for a while now, it is understood that he wants to see what other options are available before signing a deal that would likely see him stay at Anfield for the next three to four years. If Can does decide to leave, then Manchester United will have some stiff competition for his signature, as Serie A giants Juventus were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old during the summer. They are expected to reignite their interest during the January transfer window. Michael Carrick is set to call an end to his professional football career at the end of this season, and Jose Mourinho feels that Can would be the perfect long-term replacement.
  15. I’ve lost the link, but a recent BBC missive claimed VDV is error prone and frequently caught out of position, which he often remedies by the pace of his recovery. The link claimed Southampton fans are bemused by the criticism of Lovren’s defensive howlers for the Reds because they were characteristic of his time at the Dell. If we do sign VDV, the article warns Liverpool fans to expect Lovren type errors on occasions. Even if we sign him, it looks like we'll still need the vallium.
  16. Gomez has been our most consistent defender this season. He wins a most headers, is quick and strong in the tackle with an accurate pass and sound technique. He’s a cracking player.
  17. If you lose to a club in a cup match, you inevitably beat them in the league. We’ll win this comfortably. Bookies understand. 3-1 to the Reds.
  18. Hope we pick Gomez at CH, Grujic in midfield with Woodburn and Solanke in attack. Of these four, Grujic is the player I would most like to see getting a start. He seemed impressive in preseason yet wasn’t even a sub yesterday. Poor sod must be wondering why he signed for us.
  19. MSM claim Naymar advised Coutinho to stay at Liverpool as he would be better off here than signing for Barca. The advice was offered at the Brazil training camp. No elaboration, which is a pity.
  20. Monday’s Times published the following stats; Premiership defender who made the most successful tackles over the weekend, Moreno with 6. Most successful tackles after three games, Moreno with 11. Which is quite impressive as he only played in two matches. Moreno is lightening fast with good technique and is a definite asset to our attack. It would appear that, in this season so far, he is not as poor as in previous years. Maybe he is improving. Let’s hope it continues
  21. Better than us for the past two years? That explains why they failed to beat us in four attempts and were played off the park at Anfield last spring. Man up and get a grip, they are little better than Millwall with a centre forward. We’ll finish second, third at worst.
  22. On the subject of missing dogs, what’s happened to Ghost? I can’t remember him being killed, where is he these days?
  23. I read Catch 22 from a recommendation on here well over 10 years ago (possibly 15) and was pretty disappointed. It's sometimes funny, but I was hoping for a story and there isn't one. Don't mean to piss on the chips of those that love it, but if like me you were hoping for a great war story, give it a big swerve. Garrulous twat. “Complete and utter garbage”, is the phrase ya looking for. BTW: nice to see you back, about time you made a contribution.
