  1. Good article. It's critical, but constructively so and offers some mitigating circumstances without making too many excuses.
  2. I was talking to a lad my girlfriend knows - he's an Arsenal fan. The amount of credence a lot of Londoners give to the "bottler" theory about him retiring from i*ternational football is astounding. He, and some of the lads he was with, were convinced that every man in the country should consider it the highest honour to play for England. I pointed out that everyone feels differently and was entitled to do so, as well as most of the obvious counterarguments but they fell on deaf ears. To the Ingerlund bunch, Jamie Carragher has committed treason. It's probably the opposite with why we loathe John Terry so much, but a lot of other team's fans have no problem with him.
  3. What a shame John. That's the reason he came to England, to win over John Salako. I'm going to have to rep you on your signature, by the way!
  4. The Mourinho factor was huge, as was some of the really dodgy decisions we got against them that season. The hate has rescinded a lot because of the resurgence of the mancs. It's reminded us of our priorities.
  5. If people are complaining about a lack of depth in the squad, then net spend is important as at the moment, to sign a player he has to sacrifice at least one. How's he supposed to, for the sake of argument, sell a player for £5m and sign a better one for £5m? He might do, but it's hit and miss, hence the poor quality of some of our subs. There's no excuse for some of the spineless, clueless displays we've seen this season, but with a multitude of first teamers out, there has to be a degree of mitigation, especially given what I've said in the above paragraph. At the moment, I'm happy with the state of the first XI (provisionally so, need to see more of Aquilani) but unhappy with the bench and beyond (apart from some of the kids coming through). With no money to spend now, how's he supposed to improve this? Sell a first teamer and sign a handful of squad players with the money? Or sell off a load of squad players and take a punt on players of equal value?
  6. Here it is, I think. Rafa Deserves Wenger-Style Patience
  7. I like Insua and think he's got potential, but the way he's been playing the last few games has really pushed his weaknesses into the limelight. He should have a stretch in the reserves and use those games to work on the problems that his first team appearances have highlighted.
  8. I can see how people are sick of it, but if they're asked questions what else are they supposed to say? "We've been shit, and we're definitely out of the title race?" They have to improve, and they have to make the results turn around. There's no other answer they can realistically give, so if they're asked those types of questions then we'll read these types of answers.
  9. Aquilani, of all people, should have a good poker face.
  10. He seems like an utter cunt, but he's "disappointed" Dave Whelan, which is promising. I hate Dave Whelan more.
  11. Can't complain with Degen - he made a great block to stop Nasri(?) from tapping in Eastmond's cross in the first half. He got forward well and to be honest, people's problems with him stem more from a lack of ability to stay fit.
  12. Babel really is the most frustrating player I've ever seen. There really is talent in there but I'm fucked if I know how he'll ever realise it with his total lack of application. I doubt Rafa knows either, and most pertinently, neither does Babel. He's a real disappointment. Voronin did ok, and I'm not going to have a pop at him because he put a shift in.
  13. Good enough performance against an Arsenal side similar in strength to the side we put out. If we'd put in the same kind of application against Tottenham last season we wouldn't have been so shockingly embarrassed. Spearing had a decent game, Plessis was pedestrian. Aquilani looked very tidy when he came on. It's difficult to judge this game til we get a bit of context. If we continue to kick on, then we'll forget it soon enough. If we don't win anything this season, there'll be further question marks over this one. Tonight though, I'm happy enough.
  14. Even as they run off the stewards are doing fuck all!
  15. Whatever happens to him for the rest of his career, he can always look back and tell his grandkids: "I got that pissy arsed Gary Neville sent off."
  16. Yeah. Because of their '98 and '00 successes, French players were all the rage. We were pretty culpable though. Wenger's signed a lot of shit players over the years. Some of his current batch of youngsters will be moved on with a chortle as well. Francis Jeffers and Richard Wright are the two most prominent in my mind. Reyes was a good player, but there's similarities with Ryan Babel in my opinion. Sometimes looks quality, but most the time looks disinterested. They've probably got different reasons for it though.
  17. "Get the fuck out you tramp, there's a dress code in here don't you know!?"
  18. I've always tried to think that club and international football can coexist if it's handled sensibly. But playing two injured players in dead rubbers really is ridiculous. Torres and Gerrard need to grow a pair and stand up for themselves, but I still can't believe the management at England and Spain can be so selfish ahead of two meaningless games. It's a sad state of affairs, and I want and expect to see Rafa take a hard line on this. It won't make a difference though, and the club vs country row will carry on.
  19. It's only goal.com. I won't believe it!
  20. It's a throwback to the Roy Keane days, when bringing the game nto disrepute was his hobby. Someone should probably tell them he's moved on though.
  21. Reminds me of that time Gerrard was injured and the FA insisted on seeing his injury themselves before letting him go, so he ended up going to London and back for the FA doctors to stroke their chins and say "ooh yeah, he's injured him." Whereas that great bastion of truth, integrity and respect Demento only has to whistle and purse his lips and his player returns like a fucking falcon. He's got the FA in a Jedi mind trick I'm sure, the drunken old Sith.
  22. Nah, he jacked his membership in in protest at being the only one who hasn't got his book yet...
  23. His high octane performances against us since Rafa called him out as the cheating bastard that he is show him up as the cunt that he is. He raises his game because of a personal spat with Rafa, rather than because he wants his team to win a big game. He's an absolute shithouse of a player, probably the worst of some pretty stiff competition. I fucking hate him, but I fear him equally as much.
