  1. Van Der Vaart would fill the void on the treatment table left by Kewell, sign him up!
  2. The main reason we won't win the league is that United have dropped only 6 points since the middle of December. 3 to us and 3 to Fulham. Their last dropped points before those were to Spurs on December 13th. Whatever you want to say about United this year, that is a phenomenal return. 18 wins from 20 games, 54 points from 60.
  3. Never a bottlerer. His performance against Inter at the San Siro was nothing short of phenomenal, and if I really cared enough I could pick more than a couple of others. He wasn't nearly as bad as people make out he was in the CL final either.
  4. So every time a player is close to retiring and hasn't won the PFA player of the year award we'll give it to them? Scholes next then? Lampard the year after? Maybe Carragher? It's laughable. He has been excellent player no doubt, but the reason he never won the award is because every year there has been someone better. Usually several someones.
  5. I don't think he wants to be a footballer, so I don't want him. I hope he sorts himself out though, I can see him doing well in Brazil. It's a shame because he has a hell of a left foot and didn't half look like he'd become something special only a few years back.
  6. I am sure the press will paint this as a classic between two great sides, but Shots on target: Liverpool 16, Arsenal 4...Corners: Liverpool 12, Arsenal 0... We absolutely battered them. They were very, very poor and we were excellent, bar 3 mistakes (as I said, 4th goal was more due to pressing than anything). I do with Carragher wouldn't bloody shoot though.
  7. Not as good a game as the score suggests. We were the much better side and gifted them 3 goals (the 4th was just due to needing a goal). Massive boost for United. Don't know how to feel right now.
  8. When I first read his "apology" I thought it didn't seem like he was accepting he'd done anything wrong - more of a "Didn't mean to offend you, so sorry if I did" rather than a "I understand what I did was unacceptable". French interview pretty much confirms that, he may well be sorry for offending people, but I don't think for a moment he thinks he did anything wrong. He misses the point entirely. It doesn't matter if it was 30 minutes or 30 seconds or 3 seconds of the hour. It's beyond explanation, he lacks the base left of human decency to understand that what he did was unacceptable. It really is pathetic.
  9. I agree with most of it, especially in regards to Fat Sam's inflated self image, he geniunely thinks he is a great manager. Having said that, however he did it, he did do a fantastic job at Bolton. From 2005-2008 they were the only side to finish inside the top 10 every year except from the big four, hardly a yoyo side in truth. If you look at all the sides which have been promoted over the last 10-15 years, Bolton have done better than any of them probably. It's hard to praise him because he is a massive cunt, but credit is where it's due, he did do well at Bolton, and his time at Newcastle showed that Bolton was about his level. I hate the bollocks about him not spending money too. He spent vast amounts of money on his various training techniques, experts, backroom staff and the rest of it. He chose to spend less on transfers so he could have his gadgets and 15 people to discuss how best to use at centre back up front.
  10. If we win the rest of our games and they still win the league, then they will have responded to two defeats by winning at least 8 out of their last 9 games, and won at least 19 out of their final 22 games of the season. If that ends up being the case you could hardly begrudge them the title, even if they'd still be a bunch of horrible bastards. But how often will a team pick up at 57-60 points out of a possible 66?
  11. Dossena was brought on because Aurelio was a complete liability.
  12. Were Mourinho's victories especially tactical though? I always felt it was more often a case of having a better team, or individuals/team playing better on the day, as well as some "luck" in the odd match. I can't remember the last time a manager set out his team specifically to counter our threat, or played in such a way that it was specifically intended to produce the best results against us, which is something Rafa has been a master of in Europe. I wouldn't say Mourinho ever set up his team directly to combat us, or altered his tactics for a one of match. His tactical choices were bizarre against us at times though, so perhaps he was and I just didn't see it.
  13. I am not quite sure how youth systems, be it Arsenal, Man Utd or (Christ I hope) ours, get credit for players like Macheda. They abused a loop hole to sign a young player who was regarded as an excellent prospect across the whole of Europe, much like Arsenal and Fabregas, and how we have done with several young players. He isn't a product of their youth set up, although he may well have benefitted from being there. Similar story with Giuseppe Rossi, who they were mad to let go of but I suppose they didn't have much choice. There is a vast difference between a "youth system" produced Macheda and someone like Beckham who was with them since he was 10 or whatever.
  14. It'll be interesting to see what the CCTV of the area shows, because that video certainly raises questions about the police.
  15. He has a point in that the matches with Chelsea have tended to be tense, close affairs that aren't great for a neutral. Saying that, we were by far the better team at Anfield last year and they were terrible. I hope Hiddink has them come to win, because I believe we'll walk it then. Mourinho and Grant have, much like Rafa, results first approaches which is why the games were so dire. Not a critism of any of them mind, results first is the only sensible option in the Champs. League.
  16. He said he wants to stay here for "many years", and was then asked what he wanted "after Liverpool", to which he said he would like to play in Italy or Germany, before finishing his career at Atletico. Poor timing indeed, but not a big deal.
  17. If Rafa stopped playing Dossena by January he'd be worth hardly anything and come next summer we'd be looking at shipping him out on a free, probably with a sizeable pay off. As it stands he's kept most of his value and we'll be able to sell him back to Italy for a decent enough fee.
  18. Our defence always looks shit when Reina isn't playing. Has done every time I can remember for the last two years, so I wasn't overly suprised when it looked shit last night. I'm not saying it is just Reina, but Reina is so good at his style of keeping that a defense is going to need to adjust considerably to pretty much any other keeper in the world.
  19. Yeah, but he has the best name to shout in a slightly sped up is about to shoot way, so I don't mind. Adebayor!
  20. Remember being linked with Villa for 5 million a few years back? Sigh...
  21. A pleasure. And yes, the Premiership is a cut above the German league, but having watched a lot of both German and, unfortunately, Scottish football over the last couple of years, and the Bundesliga is miles ahead of the SPL. I think you can probably take 4-6 places from any German team and they'll be about that level in England. No Scottish team other than Rangers or Celtic would be able to compete at all in the Premiership. But the point was really, that Bayern have won 9 Bundesligas in the same time as Man Utd have picked up 10 Premier league titles. It's depressing, but from the outside of England Man Utd are every bit as dominent as Bayern.
