  1. We're not talking about every other industry, we're specifically talking about cryptocurrency, which you brought up. But, as always with one of your pet projects/interests, you go in to defensive, know-it-all mode. I stand by the last sentence in my original post, it's greenwashing; it's offsetting some of the damage caused by a damaging industry. I think it's very naive to think crypto ultimately won't be as corrupted and with centralised power and control as the current system. I'm still yet to hear a crypto fan/user explain it's real world applications as anything other than another method of gambling. Do you want me to criticise every industry's carbon emissions or shall I wait for you to raise specific points I can respond to?
  2. Whataboutery, excellent. But, but, but...
  3. I've read about this and initially it seems a good idea but given that Cryptocurrency is a fucking scam and doesn't need to exist in the first place it's not as clever as it thinks. It may recover 96% of the heat, in turn heating domestic hot water, but the embodied carbon and energy needed to power the hardware would be better used to heat actual heat pumps and renewable technology, designed for that purpose. The claims that this is a "heat pump" first seem spurious at best from an industry that is dodgy and volatile as hell and doesn't seem to have given much of a shit about it's carbon impact so far (mining for crypto has a greater carbon output than Argentina per year). So yeah, it's making something shit less shit but it doesn't need to exist in the first place and is only offsetting some of the damage the industry it causes. It feels like greenwashing to me, in the same way that airlines feel better about themselves by letting you choose to plant a tree. We could just not do this damaging shit to start with.
  4. Good, it'll stop those disgusting plumes of smoke you can't avoid when walking through town or at an outdoor public event. Good to see the useful idiots are out and willing to jump on anything Starmer and Labour do.
  5. 6th but we'll win the Champions League; put a monkey on it, monster, monster, monster.
  6. Yes, that's noticeable too. I had a heated discussion about this with my father-in-law recently, he said that it's "more dangerous" to play outside now. When I asked for proof of that he said it was a "fact" but, as I'm sure I've read on here, it's not all based on fact and is more a perception/media fear mongering thing, right?
  7. Sort of... https://www.theguardian.com/education/2017/feb/23/ppe-oxford-university-degree-that-rules-britain
  8. We played a lot of basketball when we were kids, back when the NBA was on Channel 4 every week in the 90s! I probably played more of it for a period than I did football, until I realised I was always going to be a short-arse and focused more on football. There's certainly much more, better quality organised football and sports training available nowadays, but is that all a good thing? How accessible is it to all demographics? The selling off and privatisation of public space and the literal and figurative "fencing off" of playing fields is part of the problem. The fields we used to play on are all surrounded by 8ft fences with locked gates on nowadays, kids don't kick balls up and down the ten-foots because there are too many cars, etc, etc. I'm loathe to say "it were better in my day, lad" but I look at my nieces and nephews who never play out and certainly never spontaneously and think it's a damn shame.
  9. Really sorry to hear, CS. We're all here to listen/vent/talk shite with.
  10. Some horrific examples of late. Once I have a mostly functioning bowel again I intend to ruin it with a mass of fried pork products and lovely beans. Can't wait.
  11. Thought I'd be done and dusted by now but I'm triumphantly seeing in the new year by playing some board games online with friends and reading Ed Miliband's book 'Go Big'. It's a heady lifestyle. Happy new year TLW'ers; next year will be the 19th since I registered amongst you depraved fucks.
  12. Love me some Jimmy, repped. I'll also add 'Coffee and Cigarettes' which is a 2-4-1 as it mentions The Grateful Dead and Otis Redding:
  13. Awful news mate, lots of love.
  14. It's a really simple but good idea. The research I read a couple of years back suggested that the best donors would be close family members and, specifically, those you live with who have the same/similar diet. That way it best helps to recreate a normal guy biome.
  15. Superb. Surely there's a club/competition for pop culture references waiting for you to take it by storm? That or a Spaceship MS Paint club.
  16. I can't get the sound working on this but is it about 'poo enemas'? They're a genuine thing, I've been following it for a good few years as it's been mooted as a potential cure for Ulcerative Colitis. I believe right now it's only used for C-Dif.
  17. You're not alone mate and I you sound like me with the "others are worse off" line too. I've had minor struggles with anxiety and depression and found that counselling really did help, I was just able to get things off my chest to someone who is just there to listen. It also helped me realise just how important friends are to me and how I needed to find better ways to connect with them now that we're all older. Alongside that, walking the dog and being outdoors recharges me no end. @Section_31 nailing the advice there too. Walking football though, mate?! Fucking hell, we really are in the end game now, aren't we?
  18. Fucking ace. There's a model railway shop near us in Sheffield, I'm lead to believe it's one of - if not the - best in the UK. They sell a few board games so I've been in and I must admit to being fascinated by it all, albeit it's not something I think I'd ever get in to. It's always busy and they've not long spent a lot of money refurbishing the shop, so it must be lucrative! The prices of some of the scale models are eye-watering.
  19. I wish, mate! My dream would be to work 3 days a week and spend 2 days a week on the garden. Alas.
  20. How To With John Wilson on BBC iPlayer. A scripted docuseries by a New York filmmaker where Wilson gives advice on a particular topic, e.g. "How To Put Up Scaffolding, How To Appreciate Wine". These are intimate, funny, empathic tales that go off on tangents and explore some of the weird and wonderful parts of Wilson and New York's everyday life. Completely unique and brilliant. 9/10.
  21. I think the wife has found a UK shop that imports it but I've no idea whether that's online or physical - she's very secretive about it so that she can mantain the "surprise" of getting. Link to the German online store below and I know you'll enjoy that the original "Mustard Maker's" name was Guido: https://www.senfmuehle.de/start/Online-Shop/index.html This one - https://www.senfmuehle.de/start/Online-Shop/Senf/prod/Biersenf---Moutarde-de-Montjoie-335ml__2164.html?xz=0&ci=2164&cs=2&cc=1 It's absolutely incredible stuff.
  22. Thanks Vlad. Hope you're coping ok with your symptoms, I know the festive period can be tricky with the temptation to over indulge!
  23. Delightful, gotta love swooping in like this. Yeah, yeah, we need midfielders but if you can't get excited about signing a highly rated, young winger then I feel sorry for you, man.
